I share your feelings. I have many memories of him and strongest is the complete cycle of the Beethoven piano sonatas during the 1990s . I attended the London concerts over a couple of years ( the cycle was presented on various locations throughout the world) . This resulted in his second recorded traversal of the cycle for Philip’s. I Remember the Gramophone review of one release that it was Brendel’s most recent episode of communing with Beethoven. Communing. A good choice of word.
I last saw him shopping for food in Marks & Spencer , Oxford Street. A memory that might amuse him ( he was famous for his sense of humour).
Very sad indeed. Brendel was without doubt one of the greats of his generation. It must be nearly 25 years since I last saw him, at Stockholm Concert Hall playing a mixed bag of Schubert, Brahms and Mozart IIRC. However his Haydn Sonata cycle was my personal favourite. Now in heavy rotation.

2nd album of Blanco White, the alterego of Londener Josh Edwards.
Melancholic neofolk.
Just released this week. Tremendous.
I have just returned from a long weekend away with my partner.
Not surprisingly, I didn’t listen to much music, but I did play for her (on my A&K SP3000M DAP) some artists and albums that she hadn’t heard before. I’m pleased to say that she enjoyed everything she heard…
. To paraphrase Mandy Rice-Davies. Well, she would say that wouldn’t she.
I once had a girlfriend who seems to have made a mental list of everything that I had played to her so that when breaking up she could tell me how much she had hated hearing every one !
Ha! Good point, Pete.
However, I think that she genuinely did enjoy the music.
One of the albums that I played her was Buena Vista Social Club’s eponymous album, which she really liked.
That evening, when we were out for dinner, there was a live band playing.
Coincidentally, the female lead singer was Cuban. I asked her if they’d be willing to sing some of BVSC’s songs…
She sang ‘Chan Chan’ and ‘Candela’…
my partner was beside herself with excitement!
EDIT:
This is is the album I was referring to;
Yes, I love that album.
Highly recommended to watch, hear and enjoy the BluRay live version by Wim Wenders of the Buena Vista Social Club:
