New dCS 6 box presentation!

I would have also expected that previous ranges (Bartok, Rossini, Vivaldi) could go higher than DSD128 as it has been stated that it should not be a mn hardware limitations.

can that be done with SW upgrade?

This is what I understood from here : Request for DSD256 playback - #183 by August

You were indeed pretty much spot on AndrĂŠ:

it will be interesting to see how dCS start to trickle down this new technology into entry and midrange systems (Bartok, Rossini…).

Just maybe some software updates, otherwise it seems most of the innovations are hardware-driven and on a new platform.
It makes a lot of sense to separate the display from the DACs from a noise perspective though. The next thing to trickle down might be a stereodac as cheaper option.

Display + stereo DAC would be very cool- this could be Vivaldi 2.0

It seems that the Varèse product launch is being delayed…

The dCS website is probably flooded with requests.

Guilty as charged :joy:

Error 524 error indicates that Cloudflare made a successful TCP connection to the origin web server, but the origin did not reply with an HTTP response before the connection timed out. Typically, Cloudflare waits 100 seconds for an HTTP response. If the origin doesn’t respond in that time, Cloudflare closes the connection and you’ll see “Error 524: A timeout occurred”.

It’s up again now.

Yes. The clock is denoted as optional, as is the disc transport, so a minimal Varèse configuration would appear to consist of a User Interface, dual mono DACs and a Core.

Thank goodness. Leaves me enough time for a Go Fund Me campaign

Hi Pete,

It is already on-line!

Couple of other points I notice from the new higher resolution rear panel pictures:

  • The new 12-pole socket on the Master Clock and the bottom left socket on the Core are labelled “Clock” whereas all the others apparently similar sockets are labelled “Actus”. So no clock inputs on the DACs, i.e. the clock signal is apparently sent to the DACs from the Core via Actus. Presumably the forthcoming transport, like the DACs, will also receive the clock signal from the Core via the Actus connection.
  • What I initially thought was the RJ45 (ethernet connection) is in fact a USB A(!) socket.
  • What I initially thought was an SFP (fiber) receptacle is in fact an RJ45.

Hhmm … USB-A in 2024, would have expected USB-C by now. Maybe the Core has expansion modules (on the left of the chassis) for future options.

Thinks: This is all interesting but, seriously, is anyone here who is actually going to buy one? This isn’t backwards compatible with older existing dCS models nor with front end components from other manufacturers. it is a complete 5 box+ remote controller purchase.

dCS are pursuing a luxury rather than enthusiast market and places like this forum are ultimately patronised by enthusiasts.
