New dCS 6 box presentation!

User - ruudvde- Ruud posted a picture of 6 boxes above.

Best Sir,

Bob

I count 6

Best Sir,

Bob

Haha, we are referring to different posts. That was a joke Ruud had Photoshopped together. The screenshots from the official teaser only show five.

Oh – okay. I may stand corrected - but standing firm with 6 boxes expected for a full kit.

Best sir,

Bob

Agreed, so maybe a transport or maybe something else…

A fly case for the cables

For those in the UK Hifi Lounge will have a permanent demo set: https://pinkfishmedia.net/forum/threads/introducing-the-dcs-audio-varèse-the-worlds-ultimate-digital-front-end-on-demo-at-hfl-very-soon.294909/

I will be very surprised if it comes in at $220 “with” a transport.

$220 K

As I said elsewhere, “Transport” does not necessarily mean optical. The unique connectivity also suggests that Varese needs to be considered as making a complete front end solution.

Lots more information with us in 10 hours, 41 minutes from the time of writing this.

I will not break the embargo, but the new product page was already on-line for a short time.

Very exciting news, very new technologies are coming!

Just in a few hours…

It is a photoshop…

Can’t wait for these new technologies to cascade down the line :grinning:

In this case, I’m not sure how easy that will be. It looks like a different architecture, with custom connections… Aspects of mapping/filters/DSP of course should translate, and obviously DSD256 processing, but we’ll have to see more to know

As one example, I note that the rear panels of the Vivaldi, Rossini and Bartok are either very similar, or exactly the same. This is not the case with the Varese, and to my knowledge the two-box L/R DAC separation is completely new for dCS (at least in my short time as a dCS owner…)

It’s a once in a decade plus platform change. Vivaldi was launched exactly 12 years ago (also at the Hong Kong AV show, in 2012). It has had a great run and will continue for a while longer I suppose. 12 - 15 years is a very long time in digital technologies. Kudos to dCS to not be afraid to make a more radical change and launch a very new platform, one that is (largely) not compatible with the existing range. It sets the platform baseline for the next 10+ years. Re DSD … anything less that DSD512 (subject to input and source of course) for the new Varèse platform would be rather underwhelming.

I agree with you Andre.

However there still is very little source material at DSD512. Almost all of it is up-sampled from an original DSD256 recording (or lower resolution). Very fortunately, good sites like NativeDSD and Eudora provide details on the recording chain where this can been seen/verified…

The better question is support for DSD 512, 768 and 1024.

Some DACs already do support those rates and there’s content.

DSD 1024 Content

As @keiserrg wrote most DSD1024 downloads are upsampled versions.

Native DSD 1024 download.
