No, not close at all…
I live next to a middle sized town (at the France scale) called Grenoble in the French Alps.
It’s 100km from Lyon, 600km from Paris…
Ah near Grenoble, very nice! I‘ve been there several times. I love the Belledonne mountain range.
Visited Annecy a couple of times in my prior life. Stunning part of the world!
The “French Venice”!
All the foreign non-European visitors I received for 1 or 2w in Grenoble during my past career of software manager in the EDA domain, whether coming from Asia (Japan, South Korea, Taipei, India…) or America (USA, Canada, …), they all wanted to go visit Geneva…
Frankly speaking, IMHO Geneva isn’t a pretty city (neither is Grenoble BTW, but its surroundings are amazing if you enjoy mountains and nature).
There are much much nicer cities to go visit in Switzerland: Lausanne for example…
To make it short, I always recommended my visitors to pass by Annecy when returning from their journey to Geneva, and they all thanked me for that: they all got disappointed by Geneva and totally amazed by Annecy!

There is a very tough ultrarun going over it, https://www.lechappeebelledonne.com/ different hobby but I did do the smaller version of it once 
I know a few people who participated to such events (Iron-Man like) by the past!
You have to be a very trained sporty person with absolutely no health problem to pretend to such competition.
Any marathon is an every week Sunday pedestrian ballad compared to this…
Yes it is brutal and tougher than UTMB. I only did the small version 63km 4500hm 
Need to get myself back into that shape!
