Just got my Varèse system installed last week (transport to come next month I hope.) Have been living in my basement with my jaw agape! Did have one question though. In the manual it shows the ability to convert PCM to DXD. This is what I did on my old Vivaldi. But the Mosaic Actus software doesn’t have this. The only conversion I see is PCM to DSD. Any reason to change PCM to DSD? Otherwise it looks like it just plays things in their native resolution with no upsampling (unless it is doing something behind the scenes.). Not complaining as the system sounds amazing just curious based on what I was doing on Vivaldi. Thanks!
Congratulations John! You can choose to upsample PCM to DXD or DSD as you could with Vivaldi. I don’t have a Varèse in front of me right now but if I remember correctly you can do this from the player screen of the app, the UI or the remote. Press the wiggly line that looks like a waveform and then select the “PCM” signal path preset from the drop down, that will result in PCM being upsampled to DXD.
Congratulations!
I have already notified @Phil that Vivaldi Upsampler Mosaic control 1.4.4 also omits DXD. I am surprised that the Actus version does as well.
Here is a screenshot of the Vivaldi upsampling control.
NB: as I was posting the above Andrew has explained. Frankly the Vivaldi UI seems easier to me ( were the missing option restored).
DXD is 352k8 for base 44k1 and 384k for base 48k.
Here’s what the manual shows:
Here’s what I see on the app. Checked all the presets and the custom preset that was set up. Also, confirmed I am on the latest firmware.
Yes but although the rates are available for selection, the point of using DXD instead is that as a series of tracks may vary from 44.1 to 48 KS/s bases the correct upsampling rate will be automatically applied. In similar circumstances without DXD the user has to select the correct upsampling multiple each time the base rate changes.
Wow, congratulations on your new toy! I’m really curious to hear your thoughts on it.
Way out of reach for me, though.
Congratulation for your new system.
