Please can anyone help with this, I’m using Roon streaming 24/192 files using dual AES cables from the bridge to the DAC I’ve set Dual AES in the DAC menu but when streaming this 24/192 file the DAC will not switch to Dual AES it reads 24/96 and only the AES 1 light is on ??? Can you shed some light on this thank you
Right, forgot about one thing. Dual AES must be on for that to work, apparently. Press “Function” button on the remote, keep pressing the Up arrow button until the display shows “Dual AES”. Then keep pressing the “Function” button until the display shows “On”. After a while try double-pressing the “Input” button. Just done that on mine and it is working.

Thanks again for this I have switched the Dual AES to “on” in the Edgar’s menu then I can toggle through the input to select Dual AES.
When I stream from Roon using the DCS Network Bridge the DAC should automatically switch into Dual AES when needed for that file (24/192) and should switch back automatically when playing a 16/44.1 to show AES1 lit however it’s does not automatically switch between the single AES and Dual AES ??!
See page 23 ( v.4.4x) of the Elgar user manual which deals with dual AES and lists a number of potential faults including dual AES not everting to single AES for lower sample signals. An important one is that automatic switching requires the signal file to include a message flag indicating the correct mode. It could be that the signal from Roon omits such a flag. I cannot verify this as I am not a Roon user but it is a possible cause of your issue.
I have read this it suggests that if the flags are not there it will not switch maybe the recording has to be recorded for dual AES I’ll contact DCS and ask for a 24/192 file that will work to see if my DAC switches automatically, I can toggle the input on the DAC to Dual AES but it could be just sending 24/96 down each cable and not a true 24/192 file for use with Dual AES as this tech is old now, Pete thank you for your time on this frustrating subject I will contact DCS get the file and maybe they can help further ?!
David, are you upsampling using Roon or do you have e.g. a Qobuz subscription and use Roon for integrating it with UPnP? If you have such a subscription you could use Mosaic and get a 24/192 file directly. I do use Qobuz with automatic AES switching but, admittedly, with current dCS units. So, just a thought.
Roon and the source streams/files have no AES flags. The “source” discussed in the Elgar manual in this case is the dCS Network Bridge. When configured correctly, it is the Network Bridge that inserts the appropriate AES flags when connected to the DAC.
@Houlty David, you might want to double check that you’ve configured the Network Bridge precisely as described on page 12 of its User Manual. There’s a specific set of configurations listed for the Elgar Plus.
I do use an upsampler but had that off last night I just had the DAC and network bridge and the Verona clocking the DAC.
I do use a Quobuz subscription and use Roon with it, i did signs into Qobuz using the Mosiac app and was streaming last night but it did not switch automatically between single AES and Dual wire. On a single wire it did switch on the lower sample rates up to 24/96k
I’ll try just using the DCS Mosiac app again later on.
Your help has been very much appreciated Pete anything else would help!
Thanks David. It is several years since I used Network Bridge so I have rusty knowledge.
If each of the dual AES inputs is limited to 88.2 then a 192 output to DAC from a source of this rate cannot be achieved by this method as it would be limited to 176.4. ( 88.2 x 2). At least that is how it appears to me.
Additionally the use of Verona with Elgar but not NB confuses things further ( ideally both should use the same clock reference). So I think that the most straightforward approach will be for you to contact support at dCS as suggested earlier. @Phil or one of his colleagues will help.
Let us know how you get on as this helps build knowledge.
Thanks @PAR , I hadn’t seen that David had posted here as well - we’ve been in touch via support@ for the last couple of days and I sent him a new reply from there a few minutes ago.
Using the Verona clock with the NBR is just not practical as you’d have to manually change sample rates each time you swap between a 44.1 and 48k based audio file so best to use audio / auto sync for the NBR input in that case and keep the Verona for the Transport and DAC.
All the settings for the Network Bridge to be used with the Elgar plus are in the NBR manual an the settings for using Dual AES are also in the Elgar manual so I’ve sent those over to David and we’ll just need to work through what’s going on if those aren’t working for him.
David,
you’re welcome. For what it’s worth, I’ve never got my Elgar to switch into Dual AES automatically but then again I’ve never looked into why not, either. The settings on my NB are the exactly as the manual says. It does switch back into single AES itself when playing 16/44.1, though.

P
I’ll try and get to the bottom of it in some way it’s probably gonna be nobody knows !! I’m playing CDs and they still sound good using the Purcell to up sample to DSD…. This DCS gear of mine well it still sounds good……
I use vinyl most of the time I’ve tried to send a pic but it won’t let me something to do with being a new member !
I’m actually on annual leave at the moment so I won’t be “in” next week. I just like to try to keep on top of emails / support tickets / forum hence being on here and on email while I’m “off”…
Not a problem … I’ve flagged this one over to R&D for them to have a think on because the life of the Elgar Plus predates me being here at dCS and given the comment from @Pciuch then it seems that you’re not alone. Hopefully they’ll have something for me when I’m back at my desk later in the week.
