I am currently using recelty bought Aurender W20se and Rossini apex.
They are connected with USB and Dual aes at the same time.
When using UBS, there is no problem. But when I switch to dual aes, I some times hear “tick” noise at the beginning or at the end of the song. I changed the dual aes cable twice but the problem still exists.
How can I fix it?
You may be hearing a click sound at the end (actually the beginning of the next) track if the Rossini is seeing you that the source material has changed rates. Example: 16/44 to 24/96.
Hi Simon, Sounds like a clock syncing issue. Double check the clock setting on your Rossini for the dual-AES input. If you have a clock cable from the Clock Out on the Rossini to Clock In on the Aurender it should be set to M (Master), if not it should be set to A (Audio).
If changing to differemt sampling rates are the cause, doesn’t it affect USN connection?
First, I do not seperately connect the clock cable between W20se and Rossini apex except dual aes and USB.
When I ckeck on dual aes, the clock setting is already “audio” and dual aes is “on” in Mosaic.
By the way the noiae is rather " chic" sound.
A clock sync issue usually manifests itself as a very short (maybe 1/5 of a second?) dropout, but I have also heard it manifest itself as a soft “click”. This would only be an issue with Dual-AES, USB is asynchronous so never loses sync.
The sound of the muting relay (which momentarily mutes the output while switching between clock families) is a much more distinct mechanical “clunk”. This happens regardless of the input, USB or dual-AES.
It’s really easy to test, just play two tracks, one with 16/44.1 (or a multiple) and one with 24/48 (or any multiple thereof) and you will hear the relay click.
Dear Andrew,
I am a bit nervous “chic” noise only in dual aes (the reason I bought w20se) as I inderstand dual aes provides the best over sampling and possobly the best resolution of the sound.
As you say, with USB and dual aes, I hear same “click” with sample rate changes. I am used to it, so it it is OK.
Still even the “chik, not click” sound with dual aes is very short and as it does not happen in USB, I was disturbed. Can I fix the sync noise?
If you have clock sync set to Audio then it is not a sync error. I think I will have to page @Phil on this one.
Thanks ,I will wait for Phil’s advice ^^
