The 7th February, something is coming?

Oh? What’s the date on that review?

Stereophile’s February issue has CH Precision on the cover, nothing on dCS. JVS’ only dCS Apex review I can find is the Rossini Apex review from Sep’22, and prior to that he briefly mentions the Vivaldi One Apex.

Loop Quantum Gravity!… Likewise, I’m a big fan of the ongoing theories around it.

The Bartok just did not like at all when I had it. The Rossin APEX with separate clock is light years better in comparison.

I wouldn’t spend 9,000 to upgrade Bartok. Would just add more and move to Rossini. I am looking at Vivaldi APEX stack now.

It’s the March issue. The Vivaldi Apex is on the cover with the banner " Vivaldi Apex Inspiration + Genius . Wonder if they liked it

I recommend reading this as Jason Victor Serinus writes one of his best articles and manages to squeeze in a lot of background information and brief quotes from interviews with Chris Hales and David Steven. John Atkinson provides his usual high quality measurements. BTW David confirms Bartok Apex is coming in his quote.

Thanks for the clarification Pete!! :+1:t2: (Strange, Zinio is not showing me the March issue yet , might be a geographic issue).

Generally, I’m not a fan of JVS’ reviews, but I’m very curious to examine the measurements; is it a full follow-up review including measurements from JA? (Oops, just noticed you mentioned JA’s measurements!)

I don’t think that the Zinio version is ready yet as I haven’t received their usual email notifying me. I also get the print version which arrived last Thursday.

It is not a follow up style review but a full feature review complete with measurements from JA. One important point made by dCS i( Chris Hales) in it is that although JA’s measurements are better than from most people he will not be able to measure the whole story in the context of dCS’ custom measurement tools.

Lets just say I have a good friend who was over at his house to listen to his system.
I will leave it at that :relieved:

By the way, there was an ASR thread some years ago about a visit to JVS’ home - he had quite of few dCS components in his system at the time, including a Rossini DAC, Puccini Transport, and Scarlatti Clock.

Having just splurged for a used Rossini, I hope it’s not a software upgrade because that might force my hand on the move to Apex a wee bit sooner then I’d planned.

Also, I count myself as a millennial just now scratching into this level of equipment (we’re coming!). But we are a diverse bunch - I personally absolutely love vinyl and just lugged hundreds on a cross country move. I actually made this purchase to keep up with my vinyl rig. IMO, sitting down with a physical record is the perfect antidote to our ephemeral world.

I do wonder what the future of the hobby is, 30 years from now, a literal/figurative generation onward. Much will no doubt have to do with how people are consuming music then, and it’s tough to even imagine.

Props on the new gear. The software upgrade will always be there. No one would force you to move to Apex until you are ready. Whereas a hardware upgrade leaves you one step further behind.

(As the other Ben suggested in a post above), it’s human nature to suddenly depreciate what you’ve got when some new piece of hardware is launched… but try not to get caught up with upgraditis, be patient, spend time understanding every single nuance about what you already have before even considering any sort of hardware upgrade. Software on the other hand is free, so do that the first chance you get, every time.

Oh yes, speaking personally, I’m thrilled it’s not a full hardware refresh. I fully intend to enjoy this step I’ve made before I go further, as was wisely suggested.

As someone new to the brand, what would this software update do for the apex boards and how might that affect performance?

I am sure dCS is aware the Vivaldi APEX is on the cover of Stereophile. They must have provided the review sample.
It would be interesting timing releasing a new flagship product which makes the current one featured on the magazine cover suddenly outdated😉

PS
come to think of it interesting timing as well if upgraded software were to be released which would also make the review sample outdated.

Now I’m gutted😔 I was starting to get excited about a potential free upgrade for my Rossini APEX

Yeah. I think a **FREE **new update to a brand new released hardware package that just got superb reviews without said update would be an outstanding flag to wave. But thats just me

Most of the recent Software updates for the Rossini are fixes rather than enhancements as such, and not related to Apex hardware upgrade at all. Since you’re getting a pre-owned machine, it’s just good practice to verify it has latest and greatest versions installed. Just check via Mosaic once everything is hooked up.

That’s a difficult question i think. Im guessing that the engineers at dcs have forgotten more about digital theory and processing this week than i ever knew. Lets just say they may come up with a way to make even more of the clouds part between you and the music … how… that’s their secret

FWIW, my dealer reckons that it will be a new flagship, replacing Vivaldi…

It could very well require Apex, if anything as a way to differentiate.

I can tell you I lived through the Rossini v1 → v2 software update and it was quite an improvement. But what’s happening tomorrow is anyone’s guess at this point.

I asked my dealer on Saturday, when I was in the shop for something else, and he said ‘Bartok Apex’ as if it were common knowledge. Now, let’s see if I am proved embarrassingly wrong tomorrow…

My dealer has said the same “Bartok Apex”.
but who knows?
