Running Spotify Connect to my Rossini (running current firmware), a couple tracks in my Release Radar playlist come across extremely loud and distorted (The Mountain Goats Cold At Night single, Jai Wolf’s Heartbeat). This doesn’t happen on my phone, laptop, or other Spotify Connect end points (tho none of the others are Lossless capable). Anyone encounter this?
Yes, I have the same issue. The sound is loud and distorted. The issue is likely with 24-bit 44.1 kHz files. 16-bit/44.1 kHz files are play correctly. It’s likely that DCS devices don’t actually support Spotify Connect lossless, and we’ll have to wait for an update.
@robertt and @flohmann , I can assure you that Qobuz devices support Qobuz Connect and that there is no sound quality penalty.
So you must have some issue that is not possible to deduce from your postings. However ,have you ensured that your dCS component has been updated to v. 1.4.4 and network board 527 ?
You also need a recent version of Qobuz and get this from App or Google stores depending on your device.
If all this has been done correctly then it may need further investigation.
Pete,
I believe that the issues being reported here are with Spotify Connect, rather than Qobuz…
Thanks Jonathan , my mistake.
Parr, The problem is with Spotify Connect, not Qobuz Connect. I have the latest updates for Mosaic, my network card and Spotify App installed. Playing 24/44.1 files is impossible using Spotify Connect.
Thanks Robert. See above, my mistake.
See John’s message, it appears to be a known issue thats being worked on;
Hi All,
Currently we do not support Spotify Lossless - our software team are currently closing off the work required for implementation and testing and once completed this will be added in a future firmware release.
I hope that helps.
Phil
Thanks! Back to the lossy tracks on Spotify for now. Looking forward to Lossless implementation!
@Phil any update here on Spotify Lossless support for the Rossini? I’d really like to be able to take advantage of the Lossless streams, since my Rossini is one of the few DACs in my house likely to show a real improvement from it! Thanks and happy holidays to all the dCS team!
Hi @flohmann
As @PAR has also noted, Spotify Lossless support was included in the 529 firmware update that was released on the 19th November … if you update to that version then you should be able to listen to Spotify Lossless.
Thanks! Update applied!
Is there an email list or other mechanism where you can get notified when updates get issued?
Hi Fred, yes absolutely.
Please send me your email address by DM and I’ll make sure you are on the right list.
Sorry you weren’t getting these already. I’ll make sure you get upcoming update information.
Thanks
Mark
Hi Phil, I have the latest software on my Rossini DAC (529). When I’m streaming a file from Spotify on my iPad/iPhone, it shows ”lossless 24 bit, 44,1 kHZ FLAC” in my Spotify app. When I switch source to my Rossini DAC the Spotify app shows 320 kbps for the same file. Why?
Do you have a specific album/track as an example when this happened?
Yes, it’s the same with every 24/44,1 file from Spotify. Example; Kari Bremnes/Det vi har/Spor
As it happens with all files it sounds like either Spotify Lossless is not installed or you are moving from it back to the original version. You say that it occurs when you switch to Rossini. How do you switch?
