If you can try it. I use AES interface with Rossini and the result is very good.
better than streaming via LAN?
I know we are veering a little OT, but since you just added the product to your system, this is my favorite part from the (favorable) Stereophile review:
Welcome to the detail-focused mind of Antipodes CEO Mark Jenkins. Even before he stopped making cables—“because there’s too much bullshit in the cable business”—Jenkins began designing servers.
Amen!

Although Oladra’s AES output will , no doubt, sound very good there are limitations in format support. The Oladra’s single AES output means that PCM is limited to max. 192KS/s and DSD ( via DoP) to DSD64. So no 352.8K, 384K or ( related) DXD or DSD128. Not that any of this matters if you never use such formats of course. For these high resolution formats Rossini requires dual AES or use of an alternative interface.
The sound is really good. I will try also with usb interface just for test and bypass aes band limitation.
Thanks Pete,
yeah----I’m not in the super-duper-high-res camp…but just want to know what’s the user experience comparing AES/EBU/USB vs LAN streaming with Oladra.
I’m running an Innuos Statement Next Gen and compared both connection types- LAN/streaming won by a mile. Apart from that, I think about changing gear (seems that Innuos will kill Statement Next Gen by 2025, their replacements are the new 1-box systems)
I will try by lan also
very cool- thanks Nick!!!
Great read, thank you.
Hi Nick, Very interesting topic. Which software do you use with your Oladra ?
Guys, oladra is arrived four days ago and is it new also for me.
Sure that Aes3 is better than usb. No way.
I use a valhalla 2 digital cable.
For now i use roon and squeeze, but i want to try other configurations for try to have best performance.
Till now i’m very happy , one big step ahead.
I have also to try the direct stream by lan.
After a long Sunday afternoon, half way through a new setup
Next is waiting for the electrician after the holidays to extend my dedicated power, the AV multichannel setup and TV, and the headphones extension.
So far:
- dCS Rossini APEX Dac
- dCS Rossini Clock
- dCS Remote (The Plank)
- Apogee Wyde Eye clock cables
- Audioquest Niagara 3000 power system
- Simaudio Moon 760A amp
- Benchmark LA4 preamp
- Bowers & Wilkins 805 D4 Signature midnight blue speakers + dedicated stands
- Audioquest Rocket 88 speaker cables bi-wire
- 15 kilos of dry sand to fill the stands
- Cisco Catalyst 2960 switches
- Audioquest Hurricane and Monsoon power cords
- Audioquest Fire and Water XLR cables
- Audioquest Tower 12V trigger cables
I love those speakers, my first real system was Signature 805s… and when fed with a lot of power they really came alive…
Really well done setup!
Looks like a great system @Ermos!
Great system, congratulations. I guess you investigated the Moon 740p ?
Thanks Chris. I did not investigate the Moon 740P preamp. My Moon 760A amp is already several years old, and is just there to start the new setup. I will replace it soonish. Besides, I only need a preamp to switch between music and front channels video, and of course attenuation. The Benchmark is enough for that, and can also handle the Rossini’s 6V out, as the Moon 760A amp can.
Some more progress, setting up the new system. It is a lot of work. In between it is heating up, and burning in. Occasional listening is getting better, but not yet there.
dCS Rossini Apex DAC
dCS Rossini Master Clock
Linn LP12, Audio Origami PU7Ti, Dynavector TKR, Revolver, Radikal 2, EvenStar, Keel, Karmen.
Accuphase C3900
Accuphase A80
Bowers and Wilkins 801 D4
Quadraspire Reference Rack
Chord PowerHaus
Transparent and ChordMusic Cables
The dCS units are on loan from my dealer….unlikely going back - after years with Naim, the one rack solution is heaven, although I’m very keen to get the new Accuphase C57 phono stage, so the will likely ruin that!
….and the sound of dCS with Accuphase is just right. Groovy
I thought I should update my system pics since I’ve made a few changes since the last images were posted over a year ago. Most of the changes involved the following:
Added a DCS Lina Clock.
Moved digital rig upfront between the amps. I use the Bartok Apex as the preamp now.
Changed out all interconnects and cables.
Moved records etc. to back wall so I could better address the sidewall reflection points.
Added cloud acoustic panels on the ceiling to address reflection points.
Added Reiki audio SuperSwitch and PSU. (Thank you Nigel! “The flash”)
Changed out 4 dedicated outlets to a more hospital grade version. They hold the power cables much better.
Thanks for looking!
That is a proper room! Out of curiosity what are the dimensions?
