Showing (off) your dCS setup - description and photos

Thank you. The room dimensions are approximately 20 ft. X 30 ft. The ceiling is a little under 9 feet.

Where is the Radikal?

You will find many ex Naim on this forum - no worries the water is fine

…tucked away behind the speaker. See? …I’ve already broken the one rack rule really…

Melco Switch also tucked away. One of the strange things I found about dCS is its lack of fibre networking.

Accuphase also seems to be a well trodden route for us recovering Naimies!

A few suggestions:

  1. Go direct from Rossini (set to 2V output) to A-80 (gain set to -12dB or
if not loud enough to -6 dB).
  2. Use electronic room correction (Accuphase DG-68).
To do this, one needs to separate streamer from upsampler.
  3. My dealer suggests Audioquest Dragon (speaker and XLR) for such a combination.

P.S. here: Network Bridge > DG-68 > Vivaldi Apex > AQ WEL Signature XLR > A-250 > WEL Signature speaker (biwired, 2 cables) > 800 D3

Where does he plug in his:

I just wish I had such beautiful space to setup my equipment. I love it!

I’d love to know from where you got your diffusers and absorbers. They’re very nice.

Yes - this is the challenge - I need a preamp for my deck.

I’ve not tried the Rossini direct into the A80 - but did try previous HiFi Rose rig into it - it’s a demo that took 10 seconds to reveal how huge a difference having a proper Pre-Amp makes. Of course the dCS and the Rose will be at different levels of quality in terms of their analogue outputs, but still.

Thanks - super interesting stuff - I’ll stick with a preamp for the reasons of having a Linn LP12!

Really interested in your views on the DG68 though - I’ve read reviews all of which are absolutely glowing….your experience is really good?

I’m not sure I follow this point though? …separate the streamer from the upsampler? …not possible in the Rossini? …would need a separate standalone streamer like an Aurender?

I wonder if you tried the Accuphase DC1000 DAC?

…it’s supposed to be very very good, albeit a closed box solution in terms of configuration.

…noted on the cables - thanks. I’m end to end XLR on the rack - I settled on Transparent Reference and being honest have never tried anything else. I managed to get a couple of used sets (they are super expensive new - but as with all cables, they are available much cheaper ex demo) but will investigate your recommendations!

Into the XLR or Cinch analog line inputs of the DG-68

You could use the analog line inputs of the DG-68. No need for the C-3900 anymore.
(BTW, my C-3850 sounded ok with map 1, but lost much of the room with map 3, so it is not really neutral. I use map 3 to go directly to my A-250).

If you ever heared a system with electronic room correction (e.g. DG-68, Trinnov), you’ll never go back.

You would need a separate streamer in addition to the Rossini (e.g. dCS Network Bridge, if you can find a used one).

I have a DC-901, which was sonically about on par with my dCS 954 DAC (‘pro version’ of Elgar, or rather Elgar was HIFI version of dCS 954).
Instead of going for DC-1000, which did not solve my problem for need of multiple digital inputs (on the DC-901 one could digitally insert the DG between input and output: Source > DG > DAC)
I went for the Vivaldi DAC plus Network Bridge. i still want to get a black Vivaldi Upsampler.

Audioquest Dragon (as well as my older WEL Signature are terribly expensive. That’s why I went for Accuphase Class A monoblocks; the question was: do i want to spend 50k for 4x 2m speaker cables plus about 25k for a stereo amp, or 25k for 4x 1m speaker cable and 50k for two monoblocks.

And last but not least:
congrats to your Bowers / Accuphase combo; that is exactly the sound I like
(and for my dCS dealer, my Bowers / Accuphase combo is a reference he says)

If you’d like to have more detailed info, do not hesitate to PM me.

You cannot use line level inputs for a turntable without an external phonostage ( which he does not currently have.). The output from a cartridge will be too low to drive a line level input and you also require RIAA eq.

Further ,with no pre-amp and direct connection of the DAC to power amp, even with an external phonostage, every time Matt wants to change from digital to LP he would have to rewire the connection which will be inconvenient especially as thermal stability will need to be achieved before listening. This also assumes that the phonostage provides a volume control.
.
Basically if you run digital and a turntable you need to use a preamp for practical reasons.

Thanks, Omni. I purchased them all from GIK acoustics. They are local to me, so I usually go and pick them up to save on shipping.

He does have a phono stage called Revolver.
The C-3900 is line only and is and cannot be equipped with a phono stage.
As I said, input switching can be done with the DG-68.

No. You can do with a phono equalizer / preamp (neccessary) and an ADC to feed your digital system.
( I know that phono addicts may not like this idea, but there is no other way, if you want to use electronic room correction, which is digital only.)

BTW I own an SME 20/3, SME V, Accuphase AC-6, Accuphase C-37. As ADCs I have a choice between DG-68, dCS 904, Nagra VI and some RME.

In a Linn context, Revolver is not a phono stage. It’s a (third-party) replacement outer platter.

I do not know Linn very well.
But Matt must have a phono stage, because his C-3900 is Line only !
And what about this:

Doesn’t look very high-end to me, so I doubt it.

He could of course opt for a built-in phono stage - saving shelf space - like an Urika; the Radikal can provide power for that.
