Showing (off) your dCS setup - description and photos

A very nice system indeed. Congratulations!! It is hardly surprising you cannot find anything in the current Naim line-up that piques your interest. I also agree with you concerns regarding ongoing FW stability issues. Hope that any insular opinions, will not inhibit your future contributions.

Dont get me wrong i wish naim all the luck, as i still see them slightly British still.
But some on there are so blinkered it’s crazy.
Even the god DB, i remember when someone pulled him up on a picture years back that showed his speakers wired out of faze, he hadn’t been able to hear it, but now years later his ears are like bat ears, as he can even hear the difference 1mm movement on the glass shelf. The guy lives in a dream world lol.
But each to their own as they say, but the forum does make me laugh at times and has many great members, a few i have met and a few that are friends.

Thanks very much for the response Duncan.
I totally agree with you. I was at a very comfortable spot 8 months ago with a Naim system that IMO sounded superb with third party PSU’s and associated cables. Then they unleashed 3.10. on the world. Truly awful, and followed up by the compromise that was 3.10.1.
3.11 is an improvement but the SQ is all over the place. At times it approaches 3.8 and then suddenly wanders off into a harsh and overbearing top end.
To my mind there is something fundamentally wrong with FW that is completely unstable.
I am with you; Naim was a wonderful company with truly exceptional products but now???

Yes some great people on the forum but there are one or two that are in cloud cuckoo land.

Looking forward to previewing some alternate streamers at Bristol2026, as I do not think Naim have the engineering depth to resolve the issues at hand or indeed innovate to the next level.

To be fair they have just sat back and watched as others just pulled away, hoping that somehow they could compete still.
The 500 kit is so out dated these day’s and very expensive, i am surprised they still try and sell it.
They just didn’t invest in digital and now paying for it big time. As trying to catch up isn’t going to be easy and it looks with focal at the helm, they are struggling to get money off them to try putting things right.
So then who are you on the naim forum

I would love to disclose that Duncan but as you probably know, the river that runs through Cheshire has his beady eye on anyone who does not comply with the Salisbury doctrine. All will be disclosed in due course.

Cheers marq

Having now heard the MBL 101 X-treme MKII system at Munich I must say I was very impressed. Very live, dynamic, natural sounding and a great soundstage, no matter where you are in the room. Not sure it would pass scrutiny of my better half though. Well quite sure they would not actually, but one can dream.

August,

I use the 101e mk2’s. The junior version of the Extremes. Everything you described but a little more wife and wallet friendly. :grinning:

I listened to the MBL 101 X-treme MKII last year in Veldhoven, and the sound was all over the place. I quickly lost interest in the listening session and was convinced that the MBL 101 X-treme MKII was not for me.

However, I also listened to the MBL 101 X-treme MKII in Munich, and I can only say that I was completely wrong. I’m now convinced that something else must have been off in Veldhoven.

What an incredible experience I had in the MBL room and with their setup in Munich! Absolutely stunning, in fact, I dare say it was the best-sounding room of the entire show!

But you need a really, really big space for those 101 X-tremes. Luckily, the more compact Radialstrahler models are just as impressive in typically smaller domestic spaces. My experience is that they work super well with dCS. The information output of the Ring DAC being so accurate, especially spatial clues, enables them to create a totally immersive sound field. Given a good recording the effect is mesmerising.

I wish people would ensure that their postings relate to the subject title. This thread is about showing off YOUR system not about the Munich show or Lina DAc X ( unless you own one) . Existing other threads are more relevant or a new thread can be started otherwise.

Sorry Pete, I was responding to Omni as I know he has MBL and I wanted to share my recent MBL experience.

PAR, were you a school teacher in your working life?
Your posts on this forum certainly come over that way.

No, but straighten your tie and button up your blazer or I’ll put you down for detention

Seriously tusing the forum while ignoring the structure makes it difficult to read and follow especially in a thread such as this with over 1.4K responses. It is also contrary to guidance of how to use it, so please read the FAQs and the section “Keep It Tidy”

Sorry Pete, you are of course right. I responded without being fully aware of the topic at that moment, I just got caught up in the enthusiasm of the experience.

Pete makes this forum what it is. We all ( i certainly have) get caught up in stray comments and enthusiasm. The somewhat rigid format of staying on subject helps historically to somewhat quickly research solutions to problems that have been discussed and resolved in the contributions without wading through piles of friendly off topic comments. Im guilty but i understand why the rules are there and appreciate the clarity when trying to find asolution. Best

Frankly, this forum is the least busy of a few forums I’ve visited over the years. Keeping track of what’s going on is child’s play. And Pete, I don’t take instructions from self-appointed “moderators”. I’m far too old for such nonsense.

I agree, compared to some (the ever more vituperative Naim forum springs to mind - very glad to no longer be a part of that world), this is a very low-key forum, made all the better by the even handed and well mannered contributions by both members and moderators. Regardless of age.

The FAQ advice on posting standards is from the dCS moderators, not from someone self -appointed. They are dCS staff members, James and Phil.
