Showing (off) your dCS setup - description and photos

Congratulations, Franco.
I bet that your system sounds sublime.
As you know, I’ve ‘only’ got the Essence Pre/Stereo amp…
I’m envious! :grinning:

The (third) return of the Transparent XL speaker cables , now apparently correctly calibrated.

They do sound quite nice on first listen (now)…

I have to admit I know nothing about cables and am very skeptical about the claims of these stratospherically priced wires. I only bought them because dCS uses them in their factory listening room and I found a pair at a “good” price…

(If dCS swaps theirs out for $5 versions, they will hear from me!) ; )

Cheers,
R

I guess that all of us have to buy the odd thing that we have been unable to audition so need to rely upon reviews and reputation. Unfortunately my limit on taking such risks is around £200 .

LOL. Thanks Pete : )

I have several problems and one of them is an incredibly high desire to quickly move things from the “research phase” into the “done” column …

Plus, what is the likelihood that dCS has bad cables in its own listening room? (!)

Bad cables? The only ones that I am sure about are when the distance from amp to speaker is 3m and the cable is 2m.

Quick update. I returned the First Watt F8, in my system gave similar results to the INT-25 I already have so no real reason to upgrade. Today I sold my dCS Paganini transport. So I went to the attic and dusted off one of my first real pieces of hifi, a Cyrus dAD7 which now does transport duty via SPDIF. Actually sounds good enough going into the Vivaldi to get me through in the mean time.
I will be on the lookout for a Vivaldi Transport, although might consider a used Scarlatti or Rossini if nothing suitable and reasonably priced pops up.

Edit: Puritan PS-106DC incoming, probably next week.

I live in a modest one bedroom apartment, with space at a premium. Therefore, as you can see in photo, I could not place the various dCS pieces on separate racks, as manual suggests. However, so far, it sounds pretty good the way it is, lol.
The electronics are Constellation Revelation series, Clearaudio Ovation turntable, HRS racks, Masterbuilt Cabling, Von Schweikert Unifield 2 Signature speakers, and the Vivaldi stack.

Thanks!
Nope, I tried out the OTO se silver signature integrated but preferred the vindicator straight off of the Lina controlling the volume.
The most beautiful 3.5 wpc I have ever heard!!
Have to say I am stunned at how good the WVL’s are too.

Love that sideboard @Klint! Proof that great sound and great aesthetics can somehow find a common ground! :+1:

Yes the WvL SONs are very special, I have them too. I see you have your tweeters turned way in? Did you prefer this versus the initial position of straight with about 13.5cm from the front?

As they are brand new, still a bit bright top end. So just softening that a little bit.
I know from experience with WVL when they have done their hours how good they sound and will toe them back to reference point then :+1:

Just back from a road trip to Sarasota (Florida) with a pickup load of Kevin Hayes marvelous creations from VAC. I can’t pinpoint the moment exactly but in 2017 I was swayed to go SS with some nice gear. As time went on, I began to realize I made a huge mistake & yearned for tubes. I was determined to rectify that misjudgment and accept the fact I erred.

The opportunity arose and confirmed an order for a pair of the massive 215-pound VAC 450iQ monos and a Master Preamp w/o the phono (I had a Renaissance SE Phono from a few years earlier).

So, after a 12-hour return trip and a good rest, it took the better part of the day to rebuild my racks, add the HRS M3X2-1921’s, G7 Footers/G-Links/Conecoasters, add a few new Nordost Odin 2 digital AES/EBU cables from dCS Rossini Transport AES 1 & 2 to the APEX DAC, straighten out & reroute/secure cabling, etc., without BREAKING ANYTHING.

Anyways, this is the end result:

Best to all,

Bob

P.S.Made the hour counter which is activated via a 12v trigger. No battery needed as has EPROM when system is off.

My gear:
Amps: VAC 450iQ Monos/HRS M3X2-1921’s, G7 Footers/G-Links/Conecoasters.
Preamp: VAC Master Preamplifier
