I control the Vivaldi Upsamler via Mosaic. Should I also connect the Upsampler to the DAC with the supplied RS232 cable?
Hey Antonis,
Yes, the Vivaldi DAC has no network connection so without the RS-232 cable you won’t be able to control the DAC settings (Filter/Mapper/Upsampling/Output Voltage etc.) from Mosaic or update its firmware. You will however be able to control the volume as that is embedded in the data that is sent through the dual AES connection.
If using the original 3-way cable do pay attention to connect the plugs to the units per the labels, otherwise things won’t work.
I’d like todo the same but for placement reasons I cannot quite reach the Dac and Upsampler. Does dCS make a longer Cable or any extension/
Thanks

Do you have a transport Mike? If not you can source a suitable (9-pin D-type, female-to-female) cable on Amazon at a variety of lengths. The key thing is that it is a “straight through” cable, i.e. pin 1 is wired to pin 1 etc.
Thanks Andrew– not at the moment–but I plan to get one.-what happens then–will I have to consider stacking or possibly new racks –or is a longer split available? This is a good work-around for the near future
thanks
Mike
I don’t know, let me get back to you.
Apparently we only order the one length so we only have stock of that. It might be possible to have a custom one made up but it struck me that a much easier/cheaper solution would be to just order a straight through female-to-male cable on Amazon and extend the “leg” that requires the extra length. The one I bought was branded StarTech and cost <$10. A lot cheaper than a new rack!
that’s what I’m looking for!! Thanks Andrew ![]()
