Hi, same experience here with dsdx4 - will not lock to external clock. Other dsd and dsdx2 format behaves normal with successful W1 or W2 displayed. Mosaic will display dsdx4 as dsdx2
Interesting
Is yours also a Rossini or is it a Bartok?
Rossini player
Let me test a Vivaldi One beta and I’ll tell you if this occurs there as well. ![]()
Your excitement and kind offer have been gratefully noted Andrea ![]()
I go on holiday for 2 weeks and boom, new V3 gets realised. Well it doesn’t mean anything for me yet, but hopefully this means it’s not long to wait.
But great to hear everyone singing the praises for the new upgrade and looking forward to the new mosaic as well, as i did get to have a play with this when I was picking up my upsampler and I know that’s also going to go down extremely well.
Once again dCS coming up with the goods to keep us pushing the front line forward.
DSDx4 is only available when the USB input is used.
As dCS is on record stating ethernet is the better performing input, I wonder if this dynamic now changes? I would be curious to hear feedback on those who have compared DSDx4 via USB vs. DSDX2 or DXD via Ethernet
I also tried dsd256 over usb from my dela N5. And same result. The clock gets reset to Master.

Sourav
Which dCS unit do you have again Sourav?
Rossini Apex Dac + Rossini Clock + Rossini Transport
Great, many thanks Sourav.
I agree Gregg. I have reconfigured things since changing music servers, with my server/LPS/switch now in the room on the other side of the wall from my system, so my 1 meter WireWorld Platinum USB cable is about 2 feet too short. So rather THAN buying a new cable to see which one I prefer, I’m hoping some folks will provide feedback as to whether the DSDx4 option overcomes the somewhat lower quality USB DAC input to better DSDx2 via Ethernet.
I’m sensing there may be a bit of a misunderstanding here. I don’t think we’ve ever suggested USB gives poorer sound quality than ethernet. The main difference is that while ethernet is error corrected, USB isn’t. So there is a hypothetical risk that errors could be picked up in transmission over USB and those wouldn’t be corrected. Frankly very unlikely, but with a very long run of a poorly shielded cable and a strong source of interference it is a possibility. That is the basis of our recommendation of ethernet as the connection of choice. In most common scenarios the two will likely be equivalent from a SQ perspective. Both are asynchronous, which is the important thing.**
There also seems to be an assumption that DSDx4 is inherently superior to DSDx2. It is true that the quantization noise can be noise shaped further from the audio band, but the amount of quantization noise is the same. My point is just that I think it’s wrong to assume that larger numbers are inherently better. And it’s always the case that the quality of the recording, mixing and mastering dwarfs the choice of format/resolution when it comes to sound quality. As James puts it “it’s the quality of the bits that matters most, not the quantity”.
** In this sense it is similar to our recommendation of unshielded ethernet cables for the connection to your dCS device. It is certainly not because they always sound better than shielded cables, just that they avoid one obvious potential problem - the transmission of noise from network equipment with dirty ground planes.
I appreciate your detailed explanation Andrew. Thank you.
I think you misunderstand the issue discussed here. The upsampling process from a PCM source to DSDx4 works fine; what the streaming board is currently not able to do is receive, through Ethernet, a native DSDx4 stream from outside.
Roon. Have not tried minimserver. Anyway minimserver upnp is only via ethernet for dcs mosaic. Correct me if I’m wrong
I am running minimserver on nas (or pc) and Mosiac will detect and just browse and play via Ethernet UPnP
