“Is it only me or?” Doesn’t apply here. ![]()
I actually like DSD Filter 4 more since each piano note is more “palpable” with more 3D-pop.
Dear dCS - thank you for the new V3 firmware update—it’s great as always to see dCS continue the tradition of product improvement/updates free of charge well into the product lifecycles. Delivery on this commitment is one of the key elements that distinguishes dCS from its competitors.
I installed the V3 firmware update about 30 minutes ago, it was a simple and flawless process that took about 10 minutes. I look forward to listening to the new options later today (Bartok w/HA + Rossini Master Clock).
My question specifically to dCS is around 4xDSD through the Ethernet port. I’m hoping this is in works—can you please provide a comment on it?
Thanks!
I believe the network board is limiting here for the V/R/B range and probably will not get quad DSD over ethernet.
What a big difference
Is anyone able to confirm if the final release is identical to the early release version, apart from bug fixes?
Thanks, Mike.
Similar feature-wise, but not identical. The auto-standby feature, for instance, was not in the EA.
I managed to update just now on my Rossini apex with no problems whatsoever. Thanks again to the entire dcs team for their efforts . I’ve been a filter 1 , mapper 3 , DXD type of guy and intrigued by what mapper 4 and 5 will bring to the table.
Just changed from the betaversion to 3.0, still amazed about the difference Mapper 4 brings (DXD, F5), with DSD material I really like the new F5 DSD filter.
“Nice to have” in the future would be one line below the Map/filter choices reflecting the specifics of the chosen map/filter
Thanks Andrew.
Hi Andrew, please note my post 5 hours ago regarding 4xDSD via the Ethernet port on my Bartok, which has been my preferred method of feeding the DAC (I have WireWorld’s Platinum USB cable, which I have listened to a lot, but to my ears files via Transparent’s best Ethernet cable sound better. However, I have yet to listen to any of the new options from the V3 update). I expect that August is likely correct in his post regarding the potential network board limitation, but please weigh in. Thanks, -Lee
The S800 streaming cards in the Bartók, Rossini and Vivaldi Upsampler are not capable of supporting DSDx4. We are investigating if this is possible to fix or work around. That’s about all I can say.
Thanks Andrew. I look forward to seeing how that works out. In the meantime time, I will listen to the system through Ethernet at 2xDSD vs 4xDSD through USB and determine my preference. Cheers, -Lee
I almost hate to ask however, is there any timeframe on when Vivaldi owners will be able to partake in the new firmware?![]()
If you haven’t tried DSD256 via USB on your shiny new v3.0 firmware R/B, it works rather well! Kudos to the dCS team! ![]()
Just be careful of your specific playback software. In my case with Audirvana, I had to plug out and re-plugin the USB port with Audirvana running before it would recognise that the dCS was capable of DSD256 playback (With the beta, IIRC, I even had to manually configure it).
So, do watch out.
I’m sure many Vivaldi owners are eagerly waiting for the new firmware too!
Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we get to enjoy it. Given dCS’s excellent track record of supporting its products with meaningful firmware updates, I’m happy to be patient. Good things are worth waiting for! ![]()
It would be nice to have a pdf documentation of the various Maps and filters with the new updates.
I always fall back to the original manual for the description of the various old settings.
Sometimes I get confused
And I don’t trust my ears too much.
I have now had my first listen via V3 firmware options, 90 minutes or so. Have to say I have a big smile on my face—really great upgrade, and so far I’ve only listened to the various options at 2xDSD as I have to get out my WireWorld USB cable, pull my cabinet out, etc., to hook it up. So that’s tomorrow. Will be interesting to switch back and forth between 4xDSD/USB vs 2xDSD/Ethernet.
Simply thanks to the extremely talented team at dCS for delivering another meaningful update! Now I’m waiting to see the new products that trickle down from Varese, which is why I haven’t stepped up to a Rossini DAC to match my Rossini Clock…
My system these days:
Bartok w/HA + Rossini Clock, Magico S2 speakers + 2 JL Audio Fathom F110 Subs, Krell Foundation 4K UHD/HDR Pre/Processor with new motherboard, D’Agostino Progression S350 Amp, upgraded Roon Nucleus + driven by Nordost QSource dual rail LPS with premium cables—also powering my switch. Focal 2023 Utopia headphones with Transparent Ultra headphone cables. Transparent Ultra balanced interconnects (2) and speaker cables. Getting old PS Audio power conditioning, looking at Shunyata options. Multiple power cables from Nordost, MIT, Audioquest and others.
Note to those like me that have downsized from a large house to under 3,000 sq. ft. and have limited space, the Magico S2 really is an incredible speaker given its size, and I find a pair of the JL Audio Fathom F110 subs really blend well (very fast like the S2’s) and round out that bottom octave while also taking up little room. The new S2’s were delivered in late March, just recently fully broken-in. A great match with dCS gear, D’Agostino amplification.
Upgrade for my Rossini apex was easy. Needed a power cycle. Took around 5 mins.
But I dont see the switch for Volume lock snd Auto Power off/stand by.

Sourav, you’ll find both via the front panel button [Menu] → Unit Settings (not via Mosaic Control at the moment).
