Qobuz connect for dCS

Still strange that different files “can be played” when using Qobuz connect or Mosaic.
(As I showed earlier in this thread)

Same album, in Mosaic MQA (Qobuz full DXD) and with Qobuz connect 24/44.1, this could explain a difference in SQ.

In any case, money to be made as well.

Not strange at all actually.

If you didn’t know, when using Mosaic, the music catalogs you browse comes from airable servers, not the streaming Services. When you select a particular album/track, only then does dCS pull streams directly from Qobuz (or Tidal) Servers.

And there’s always a slight delta between airable’s catalogs and the native streaming Sources. In the particular case you raised, airable is pointing Mosaic to a track that Qobuz does not want to stream natively (MQA is being systematically removed from everywhere).

So how do you know files are identical when streaming with Qobuz connect or Mosaic

Because I can see the exact streaming request that goes into the Qobuz Servers from the dCS platforms whether controlled via Mosaic/Qobuz or Qobuz Connect.

I did not even know Qobuz was serving MQA files. I thought that was exclusively a Tidal thing.

Have a look at the 2L label, there are a few MQA files (with Mosaic), they will probably disappear in the near future.

Fair enough, still I sometimes get albums in Mosaic that are not available anymore, after manually searching them in Mosaic I can find them and add them to favorites again.

As I understand correctly qobuz removes the old version when a new version is released. Wondering if all the old versions are deleted or just the tag.

Qobuz deletes the old versions when there is a one to one replacement (with the same cover and album title). The link stays in Qobuz Favorites (if you have favorited the album) and when you try to play the favorite, it fails.
This is a major PIA, as there is no easy way to find and replace these non working favorites. My process to clean up these orphans is as follows:

  • Use an iPad to find the orphaned favorites. They are flagged as “unavailabe”. But you cannot delete the favorite in the iPad Qobuz app
  • Now take the Windows Qobuz app and navigate to the same album in favorites and delete the favorite. Do not search for the replacement album yet, as you will lose the sequence of albums that you navigated through
  • Now take a second instance of thewindows Qobuz app and search for and favorite the new album
  • go back to the iPad app and scroll down to the next “unavailable” favorite.

and so on.
For the life of me I cannot understand why Qobuz does not make this easier. I have informed them several times about this sorry state of affairs, but it seems to be a subject that has been classified as “taboo” at Qobuz.

Qobuz doesn’t remove old versions when a new one is available.

Depending on their current contracts with labels, they can actually keep many versions of a same record for a while.

When contracts with record labels are renewed, they often keep only access to the most recent versions, that’s true.

The story was pretty well documented at the time in the dedicated Qobuz thread in ( what was, now Audiophile Style) Computer Audiophile. 2L had provided Qobuz with MQA encoded files. David Solomon ( then of Qobuz USA) advised that MQA was not supported and these files would be removed. There might be odd ones still left.

In case it’s helpful to anyone, I wasn’t able to see Bartók as a speaker output until I updated the network board settings - as stated earlier in the thread the network board should be 527, or version 1.4.4

It immediately started working.

I just tried it for about 30 minutes and it was buggy for me. When I was streaming an album, on the third or fourth track after it played pretty smooth it stopped and then would backtrack so the meter for example would show 48 seconds and then it would flick back to 43 seconds and then keep going forward, but there would be no sound and then it would regress back to 42 or 43 seconds again… and Bartok indicated it was playing, but there was no sound and the meter on the bar talk wasn’t moving forward at all. It was just stuck on 43 seconds. And so on and so forth

I quickly changed to streaming straight from Mosaic and also using Roon and had no difficulties.

I’m sure the product will be refined in the future but for now it was a bit frustrating to use.

I’ve had great success using Tidal this way, however.

I suggest that you contact [email protected]

I don’t use Roon so I don’t see the different options, but this tells me that I could be comparing different files between Mosaic and Qobuz connect.

It’s not difficult to visually tell the different versions apart. They all either have differences in the cover art, or titles (e.g. “Remastered”), or the album version release date. All of which can be inspected from the Qobuz App itself and matched to what you get on Mosaic/Qobuz.

Hi @blaven

If Tidal Connect is working for you but Qobuz Connect isn’t yet streaming from Tidal and Qobuz is fine from Mosaic then I don’t think the issue is at our end but as has already been suggested if you get in touch with us at [email protected] I’ll get you to pull a set of logs from your Bartok when the issue occurs and we’ll see if there’s anything in there that can help identify what’s going on …

I just want to be sure we’re on the same page.

I only tried it for about 45 minutes, but it was buggy and I have a short screen video that shows the issue. I sent that in an email.

I Have never had any issues running Qobuz through Mosaic and have never had problems with TIDAL Connect. Roon also runs smoothly.

All of us who love technology understand there can be occasional hiccups, particularly with streaming and the various handshakes that must occur for it to be functional. It is certainly possible that over the next hundred hours of listening there wouldn’t be any problems, and this is just a first impression. But first impressions leave a mark, and I haven’t really gone back to using it.

See the email I sent or, if you don’t have it, feel free to let me know here.

I’ll try it a bit more today.

Cheers from Sweden

Hi @blaven

I’m afraid haven’t seen anything in from you on the [email protected] email address, is that the address that you sent to?

In this instance I don’t think a video is going to help us so we don’t need that resending but if we can get more specific information from your setup and usage then we can try to find out what’s going on…
