Puccini cost of repair

Hi

I have a Puccini and I am assuming the laser unit has died since the player will no longer load CDs or SACDs, although I get a different error for each type of disc. CD gives No Disc and SACD gives Disc Error.

Anyway, I accept that the laser unit is considered a consumable so it needs replacing. From internet research I see the cost of a new unit is between £40 and £90 , depending on where you source it. I have been quoted £1275 to replace the laser and service the player. I am not sure what a service involves, but considering its solid state and for the price packed with top quality components, I would think there is little to go wrong.

Is this a reasonable price? It seems excessive to me. Does anyone else have experience of changing the laser unit?

Thanks

Tony
