Hello. I bought paganini clock 1.0 version, some Paganini clocks have a USB input and some do not. Early models have no USB input. This was added to the later clocks produced ( probably 2013?). It was also available as a hardware upgrade, can I buy usb upgrade kit version 2.0, or it’s possible only at dcs service center, let me know please. Thanks.
HIiAlex. I hope you are enjoying your Paganini clock and I assume that you also have the DAC.
Paganini was a 4 box system and the USB input was originally on the Upsampler. So the change of USB input to the system clock involved a software and hardware change, the latter involving replacement of the entire rear panel.
Unfortunately for you, unit upgrades are only available whilst the component is current. However dCS will support ( i.e. repair, service) it as far as is possible thereon. The move/upgrade added higher resolution support and DSD via DoP ( if my memory is correct).
I recall from when I had the upgrade in the mid teens that it cost a few thousand pounds ( UK) requiring return to the factory. Even if the upgrade was still available, If that cost was adjusted to 2025 prices I doubt if it would now be economically attractive and might exceed whatever you paid for the used unit.
Hi Alex,
It is still possible to have a PUU upgraded to PUC - sorry @PAR - but it has to be done here in the UK.
Your nearest dCS dealer should be able to assist you with pricing and availability (or failing that, the distributor for your locale) … where are you located?
Best Regards
Phil Harris
Phil, pleased to learn that I was wrong and that Alex may get what he wants.
No worries Pete - thanks for helping!
