I have not paid attention to the displays on my Vivaldi Upsampler and DAC for a long time. However, today, after thinking the sound quality was less than I thought it should be, I realize that no matter what file format Roon/Tidal claims (44/16, 96/24, 352/24 etc.), my Upsampler displays 16/44.1 > 96 and the DAC displays 24/96 all the time.
As far as I remember, when I installed the system, it displayed the actual input formats. Am I missing something here? I am not using any local storage, just streaming.
Check your Roon settings. Although I am not a Roon ( or Tidal) user I seem to recall from earlier postings that Roon allows a default or maximum output setting. If so that is why everything is coming out the same.
Vivaldi Upsampler will normally pad 16 bit depth output to 24.
So, your dCS units seem to be working correctly and the answer to your issue may lie with Roon.
My TIDAL streaming quality is set to Max, so that should not be the problem. I have not found (or changed) any settings on my Roon server that explains the problem.
Like many things, it turned out to be quite simple. Like most engineers, I search for the complex faults first
Everything I looked at seemed totally fine, until I (by accident) discovered that my Upsampler was selected, listed under other networks and enabled with AirPlay (don´t ask me how, since I have never used it) and not the Roon Ready Vivaldi System. As soon as I got that corrected, everything was back to normal.
I was really concerned with my hearing there for a while, considering the significant drop in quality, going over AirPlay.
Thanks for your time
