New Switch - Any suggestions

There is a lot of noise on these devices. The mini tesla coils from Michael just do a great job reducing that noise. On my Rossini, it made for quiter backgrounds and a sense of it being more open.

Should that be the case, than SFP/FMC would help.

Thx Lee- when going the roon way then you need a switch I guess.
By the way… I changed my router and cables now and tested the A3 again. Same behavior…after a while all upnp servers dissapear in mosaic. It’s a shame because I would love to keep the A3 (or even D3) but with IGMP issues it’s a no-go-for me. Roon, radio and streaming (f.ex Qobuz) are working.

That’s a real shame. Back to the PhoenixNET?

Yepp…
(frankly I don’t understand it because some folks here claim they got it up&running- and that is something that can’t be because Ansuz uses same HW engine in all of their switches…)

Could there be different firmware? Are there any hidden configuration options?

Showing on your pic is that you have highlighted UPnP/DLNA compatible Mode. But selected is Number 3: Hybrid Mode, according to the V check box.

Could this be the reason for your problem?

Thanks - but it‘s an unmanaged switch, so it’s not possible here…

Hello Erno, good point but unfortunately this will not work either. Qnap and synology are not seen as well after some time, so it‘s a switch hw issue.
I think I have two options now. Stick where I am with Innuos or jump on the roon train and leave mosaic/upnp. For that I would buy a D3 switch then… first world problems

Sorry but I don’t understand what stops you from selecting the option 1 which you have highlighted but is not selected :heavy_check_mark:

Hello Nigel,
the screenshot is the Melco (NAS) setting while Ansuz is the switch (no display or any setting possible)

Hi, I think I understand, but do you really want to use Hybrid Mode?

Both settings work with Mosaic and I don’t hear a difference SQ wise…

Those “Tesla Coils” are basically a pair of counter-rotating coils for common-mode noise rejection. Simple as that.

On the basis that most layer 2 Switches function on just one core Chip (including that D-Link that Ansuz uses), and everything else is about the Ethernet Port magnetics, those coils are absolutely useless.

The other value proposition they tout for their Switches are things like vibration control, which honestly for an Ethernet switch is completely bogus.

The net of it is that Ansuz’ Ethernet Switches “solve” problems that don’t exist.

On the surface, folks who design Ethernet Switches from scratch, like Innuos with their PhoenixNET, or Nordost’s QNet Switch deserves far more credit for not just attempting to put lipstick on a pig.

There won’t be any different in sound quality. That “hybrid mode” ensures maximum DLNA/UPnP Control-point compatibility, it has nothing to do with the actual music streams.

We probably have to disagree here. The “lipstick” may be more than cosmetic as the switch circuitry is just one attribute of an audiophile switch. Regardless, surely “design from scratch” is only praiseworthy if accompanied by the switch being higher performance as a result. In the case of the PhoenixNET this is definitely true.

What are the others? Noise reduction? If it is noise reduction than is would make more sense to use something like Ediscreation Fiberbox II (if it has to be good looking) or something similar.

In the case of Ansuz, I’m more than happy to be corrected if anyone can show a single shred of objective evidence that they’re doing something useful to Ethernet streams that cannot be done with a normal Switch and other isolation technology such Fibre, for 1/10th the cost  (sorry “I can hear a difference” doesn’t count as objective evidence)

The only reason an audiophile or non-audiophile switch is there (just before the streamer) is to reduce noise.

My point is merely that exactly the same board in different (well-designed) enclosures can and should make a difference such that all switches using the same board won’t sound the same. The case is - should be- much more than lipstick.

Other approaches may have their own advantages and disadvantages.

…the Nordost tip sounds good…thx Anup! I will try to get one for testing!
