Muted sound on my Vivaldi

Hi everyone,

Since a couple of days I sometimes experienced a bad muted sound coming from my Vivaldi set up.

How do I know it comes from the DAC/Upsampler and not from another element of my stereo ?
In Mosaic, if I change the upsampling paremeter than the normal sound is back.

Usually the upsampling is set to DSDx2, I change it to anything else, and back, and the problem disappears.

The problem occurs randomly, not every day. Does anyone had this problem yet ?

My initial thought is that you may be inadvertently touching the volume control in Mosaic and associating this with upsampling changes at around the same time.

Are you using direct connection or preamp? If the latter the control should remain as 0.0 dBfs. If the former see if it changes when the upsampling is altered taking care not to touch the on screen volume control.

May be muted was not the right word. Imagine you play music on a 200€ stereo and then the sound comes from your own stereo, you would here a huge difference…Suddenly the sound is very bad and just changing the up sampling parameter solve the problem. Until next time…Impossible to reproduce the problem on purpose. So I think solving it shall be complex, unless it is a welll known problem.

Chris, I think that this one is for @Phil at dCS. You should email him at:

Yes I will do that when the problem occurs every day, otherwise they may keep my DAC for a very long time before reproducing the issue. On top of that it could come from the Upsampler…So, until I can solve the issue just changing the up sampling parameter, I can live with that. I shared here in case the issue was well known…

Nobody has said yet that it will require the unit(s) to be sent back to the distributor or even the factory. Talk with Phil and find out if there is a solution that can be done by yourself at home. It might just be a settings issue.

I have had what sounds like the same thing happen to me a few times now.
It’s like the dac’s map or filter hasn’t switched on correctly.
Switching the sample rate tends to sort it or i turn it off and then back on.
I have had it sound very distorted and also just top end and very little midrange and no bass.
It hasn’t done it for a while now but i have certainly had it more than a couple of times over the last 6 months.

It is exactly that, thanks for describing the issue much better than me
