My Elgar remote control has been lost, is a replacement available?
I am afraid not. Various strategies have been tried .The Elgar is over a quarter of a century old since introduction and has been out of production for much of this time. Over the same period the production and market of universal/programmable remotes has also declined.
There are only a few learning remote remotes left from e.g. Oneforall. However you will need to find someone with a working dCS remote to copy the codes. I am unsure which remotes from later models may work with Elgar.
All may not be lost. A Google search for âdCS Elgar remote control codesâ brings up some documents that look like they contain what youâd need. Failing that, ask dCS directly. They must have the info somewhere, even though it doesnât seem to be on their website.
I had a similar issue with a dCS Delius DAC and the only real control I wanted was for volume .
The solution I came up with was to buy a used Logitech Harmony Hub and controller which give me all the controls on the dCS remote as well . I have checked and the Harmony units will controll the Elgar . The Logitech Harmony Elite remote plus hub is the best option and if you search and our patient then one can be had for around ÂŁ60 .
Just an example but it shows what does come up
Hi Andrew
Thank you for your response.
Does the Logitech Harmony come loaded with remote codes that will control the Elgar/Delius??
Thsnk you for your response, I will look into it.
Harmony needs the codes to be downloaded from a website. In the days when the device was in production this site was maintained by Logitech. I do not know if it still exists or if someone has put up a substitute. If you can locate it then you will need to ascertain if dCS Elgar codes are there. They were originally.
Hi Fred
The Logitech Harmony site is still up and running and you can load the software instructions to your Hub and then sync that with the remote . This is how I use the Elite for my Delius . Not sure if it will be the same for you but I found the Android Harmony App on my Tablet much more responsive and easier to load than using the Hub plugged in to my PC . Once you have picked the items you wish to load and sync you are set up and do not need to repeat this . Mine works well and I can control all aspects of the Delius from the remote but as mentioned I only really use it for volume control .
Hi @Simon_C âŚ
The remote codes (and RS232 commands) document is downloadable from dCS Support â Manuals & Documents â Miscellaneous Documents â Remote Control Codes âŚ
Cheers
Phil
Thatâs great Phil. But only if you have a programmable IR handset that accepts directly input hexadecimal codes.
Out of interest I just checked the available codes for one of the few leaning or otherwise âuniversalâ IR remotes still on sale; Onefor all. This has many preset codes available but only for TVs, VCRs, Satellite receivers and MP3 players. This unit is about 2 years old but the manufacturers seem to live well in the past. BTW, you cannot connect it to a computer or otherwise enter codes manually as far as I can see.
Good to know, Phil. Thanks. I was looking for info on the website by the name of the item of equipment, not the âMisc.â category. But back to remotes: an alternative would be the various models of Philips Prestigo (no longer made, but plenty available second hand). Mine has a USB port, and I could have fed in the codes from a computer although in the end a dealer let me have a dCS remote for a weekend so I trained the Prestigo from that.
There is also the Philips Pronto range. Available used but more costly so far as I can see.
The dCS Scarlatti DAC used to ship with the Philips Pronto 950 (or 960, canât remember which exactly, the monochrome screen model).
Both the 950/60 and the 980 colour models were very flexible and programmable (both, in learning mode, and code level from a connected PC), as was the newer 9400 model which can still be found on eBay BNIB. They have a slightly steep learning curve though to get it setup properly with their proprietary software.
Hi Pete,
The Philips Pronto remotes are long since discontinued Iâm afraid - which is a shame as they were quite superb, they didnât depend on a cloud service and âjust workedâ (apart from a couple of inherent design flaws in the charging docks that were a common point of failure)âŚ
There have been many attempts to create a universal / programmable remote since but ultimately all have fallen by the wayside - /me looks sadly at my Neeo remote which is still achingly beautiful and promised so much but the company was bought up by Control 4 and all the original customers abandoned - with the only real contender being the Logitech Harmony Remote which is also now deceased.
I still have a few RU980âs, a 1000 (which was the large tablet looking one) and both a 9400 and 9600 but the software support for those stopped many years ago too.
My unopened BNIB TSU9400 (which includes the Pronto Pro Edit 2.0 Software) & RFX9400 - for the day when Iâm desperate for a remote once again
I just checked any my two are the 9800 and 9600 - the large and small âNintendo Switchâ style ones ⌠I really should save an eBay search for an RFX9400!
I used to more or less live on https://www.remotecentral.com/ ⌠of course itâs no longer as busy (or as relevant) as it used to be.
Back in those days I was working for a company that was (according to what Philips told us) the biggest retailer of Prontos in Europe and we used to get them in by the multiple-palletload - Philips used to come and visit us to find out what we thought our requirements for the following year would be for scheduling their production runsâŚ
