Idagio bientôt accessible sur Mosaic?

Bonjour,

J’ai un Bartok Apex et une Master Clock Rossini sont je suis très satisfait.

Les produits dCS sont particulièrement adaptés pour les mélomanes en musique classique.

Certes Qobuz et son catalogue de musiques classiques sont disponible sur Mosaic et la compatibilité Qobuz Connect est assurée, mais il manque cruellement la plateforme Idagio, spécialisée pour la musique classique et disposant d’excellents enregistrements, certains en exclusivité, et une qualité d’encodage magnifique.

Pour en profiter je suis obligé de passer par un streamer externe compatible Idagio (Node 2025 dans mon cas) et d’entrer dans mon Bartok par une des SPDIF RCA.

Ce serait génial de proposer Idagio dans la liste des plateformes accessibles depuis Mosaic.

Un projet dans ce sens est en préparation ?

Bonjour, merci pour ce suggestion. Je ne connais pas Idagio, mais pour la musique classique ça peut-être très intéressant. C’est mieux dans l’espace ´Feature Requests’ pour Mosaic. @AndrewS can you move this and/or flag to development?

As an interim, there’s always Airplay support of course.

Oui c’est vrai, j’ai essayé également à travers Chromecast, mais la coloration sonore et la perte de qualité sont clairement audibles en musique classique, comparée à un streamer compatible Idagio relié en SPDIF RCA au Bartok.

L’idéal serait qu’Idagio soit accessible dans la liste des plateformes proposées par Mosaic, pour bénéficier de la fantastique qualité de streaming des dCS, bien meilleure qu’un streamer externe.

I’m not an Idagio subscriber, according to their website, the highest resolution they stream is FLAC 16/44.1k, which is supported by Airplay transparently in raw uncompressed PCM, so you should be able to enjoy the full resolution that Idagio can deliver when using Airplay with your dCS.

Oui, la résolution est de 16/44,1 sur Idagio, parfois 24/44,1 mais leurs choix des masters ou le traitement qu’ils appliquent, permet une restitution sonore particulièrement musicale et naturelle, en particulier sur un dCS.

A l’oreille, après des écoutes comparatives A/B, j’ai trouvé que AirPlay colorait les fichiers, comme un iPhone avec les photos, trahissant un peu l’original.

That is only correct where the device receiving AirPlay has version 1. More recent units ( like Bartok) have AirPlay 2 ( AFAIK). The advantages of AirPlay 2 are offset by the application of AAC lossy compression which is applied depending on various attributes of the file and system. What these may be seems to be a proprietary secret of Apple.

So this may explain the reservations of @FBarbara

I’m pretty sure dCS V/R/B only support Airplay 1;

Airplay 2 requires a hardware update, which the Stream800 boards do not have.

my Bartok supports airplay 1 only. I have a Wiim Pro ultra connected via optical that doubles as an AirPlay 2 streamer and an A to D converter for my phono stage.

[Off-Topic Alert]

I decided to take a closer look at exactly what Airplay capabilities Bartok was advertising.

V/B/NB all put out the same 32-bit Airplay capability advertisement;

features=0x445F8A00

Which ironically has one specific Airplay 2 flag turned ON (bit-19), BUT additional flags that tells the Airplay source to negotiate down to Airplay 1 streams.

Lina is quite different. As indicated on its official specification, Lina fully supports Airplay 2, advertising this via 2 x 32-bit capability advertisement;

features=0x445F8A00,0x801C340

The low-order 32-bits are the same as V/R/B/NB, but there’s a high-order 32-bit field which are Airplay 2 specific extensions and it includes other flags necessary for Airplay 2 negotiation.

Which suggests Lina can fully participate as part of a multi-room Airplay 2 endpoint! Nice. :+1:
