Does AirPlay still work for others?

Whenever I try playing anything via AirPlay, my Rossini APEX does nothing.

By that I don’t mean it plays silence; rather it just goes on playing whatever source it was already playing.

On devices, I get asked for the device AirPlay password, but that’s it, audio continues coming from the computer or phone speakers.

Mosaic works properly.

I know it used to work, but honestly I haven’t tried to use it for a few years now, multiple versions of macOS/iOS in the past.

I am checking AirPlay via Vivaldi/Mosaic version 1.4.3 and it is working fine. However there have been reports of fairly old Apple devices not working with 1.4.3.I am using an old iPad Air 2 running iOS 15.7.9 so older than this might be a problem.

The problem you are referring to had quite different symptoms, Pete. With the 1.4.3 release Mosaic started to crash on startup on 1st Gen iPads that are now grandfathered at iPadOS 12.5.7. According to the Mosaic entry in the App Store this version is supported (iPadOS 11 or later) so @James was going to investigate with the software team. Not sure we ever heard back on this?

Not yet…

Also reported to Phil - Last I heard from him was 23/5 when he said they didn’t know why it wasn’t working but the software guys were looking into it. About time they did know something !!!

This is actually using a current production M3 Max MacBook Pro.

Hi @BillK,

There should be no issues with Airplay and there shouldn’t be an airplay password required unless you have set one … can you do a Factory Reset on your Rossini and confirm that Airplay still no longer works and if that is still the case then run me over a set of logs from your Rossini to [email protected]?

If you need instructions on how to get to the Rossini’s web interface and download the logs then let me know…

Cheers

Phil

Hi @mobyjock,

At the moment there are a couple of issues that we are awaiting feedback from R&D on - I’m sorry for the delay there but it has been raised.

Hi Phil - Thank you appreciate the update

Is Ermos’ answer here incorrect?

I set one specifically because that answer said I needed to.

Hi @BillK

I definitely don’t have Airplay passwords set on any of the dCS kit that I have here and I can Airplay to any of them freely using any of my iOS based devices - I don’t have an Apple Silicon Mac to verify for myself but there’s no reason it shouldn’t work exactly the same.

One thing that often trips me up when using Airplay (I don’t use it often - maybe if I did this wouldn’t trip me up) but usually when I connect to something via Airplay then the default volume is set at around -46db which is low enough that when there’s a bit of background noise you can miss that it is actually sending audio to the device and playing correctly - it just needs to be turned up!

Cheers

Phil

It looks like this may be a Mac/macOS thing.

I can AirPlay from say Apple Music to my Rossini, it’s AirPlay from Safari that fails to work (though this used to, as I used to use it all the time.)

Regardless, since it works from some Mac apps (and my iPhone), that kind of puts the issue in Apple’s court.
