Pete, you might have misunderstood the discussion.
“Qobuz Connect”, like Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect, enables the Qobuz App on any personal device at home to be merely a Control-point into the dCS system; allowing one to use the Qobuz app itself for album/track selection, after which the dCS system streams directly off the Qobuz Servers. No USB connection required, just normal dCS networking connection to the Internet.
Qobuz needs to enable the capability via direct API access into their backend, just as Tidal and Spotify have done.
I can connect from Qobuz app to my Mytek Brooklyn Bridge, but not to my dCS Upsampler.
However, my Tidal app can see my dCS Upsampler…But when I try to connect I get a message like “server error, please retry”
And not exactly right for Mosaic. Yes it is like a remote control, and it is a very good thing. But it is also a nice player, not the richest in functionalities, but very fast, way faster than Roon…I like Roon, but when I want playing music without waiting for some synchronisation with the Roon server…I use Mosaic.
Essentially, yes. But Mosaic is really two remotes:
for the dCS units themselves (volume, input selection and settings such as filters, mappers etc.)
for music selection from a streaming service or your own files with the help of a UPnP server such as MinimServer, and then control of playback (play/pause forward/back etc.)
It is the latter that provides an alternative to the streaming services’ own UIs/apps whereas the former functionality is unique to Mosaic.
In all cases the music is streamed directly from source (internet service or local disk/NAS) directly to the endpoint (Bridge/Upsampler or network DAC).
You should be able to connect to your Upsampler from the Qobuz app via Airplay, but not yet via UPnP. That is what Qobuz needs to implement support for per Anup’s post above.
Just my two cents: the Roon+Qobuz interface on my system works quite well. I can’t recall the last time I had an issue. In essence, the Roon app effectively acts as the “parent” and Qobuz as a “plug-in.” Since my library is on Roon, I see no value in having a separate Qobuz interface.
I would be interested, in contrast, if NativeDSD and other sites would develop a Roon “plug-in”, as it is still quite clunky (and time consuming) to buy HD music through NativeDSD, download the file through their downloading app, save a copy, and then move it over to Roon.
I, like Chris, would vastly prefer dCS focus on DSD256 capability.
If any of you are going to be attending Munich then please do feel free to come up to the dCS rooms and say hello … I’m going to be there - I’ll be between the rooms for the duration of the event and it would be great to put faces to names.
I’m easy to pick out - tall, bald, old, somewhat socially awkward and the size of a house - so please do introduce yourselves and there’ll be plenty of others from dCS around too.
For those looking for another option, a WiiM Pro is cheap, provides a direct interface to Qobuz in the WiiM app with no need for Chromecast and appears to provide an excellent quality coax SPDIF output (while being crap in every other respect of its output).
Phil, did you actually make it to Munich?! I came into D111 a few times - always rammed which is a good sign - but couldn’t see you at all.
It was my first Munich and I knew it was going to be big… but not that big! I was there all Thu-Fri-Sat but flew back to England this morning. Exhausted but with some great contacts made.
