I have an APEX Bartók (as built) plus Rossini clock, so not very old. I am, however, having persistent issues when streaming via Mosaic (and I understand that Mosaic is just an ‘interface’) in that I get persistent drop-outs (with Network connectivity indications), whereby the Bartók will stop mid-track and then have to be re-selected as a source in Mosaic before I can re-start - though if I leave it long enough, it will reappear of its own accord (FYI, it has happened twice during the writing of this message). This NEVER happens when using Roon (Mac Studio as Server), despite the connection to the Bartók being identical - Ethernet from Orbi router to generic switch, from which there is a dedicated Network Acoustics ENO to Innuos PhoenixNet, and thence to Bartók.
The problem is not with Bartók or Mosaic but, most likely, with your network. This is a regularly reported issue and the solution is similar in most cases. Your router has a default setting that interferes with operation of multicast packets. Mesh systems may cause similar issues. There are numerous threads on this if you search the archives.
It does not happen with Roon as it works differently.
You may like to seek the assistance of dCS support so email them at:
Hi @PAR. Thanks for that, and I’ve seen & read the threads, however this is a very recent development (over the past couple of months, or so), hence my query…
David, GMP Snooping is an example of a common factor that will interfere with multicast packets. There are probably others and I am not the best person in regard to network issues. I may try if I hope that there is a simple solution but otherwise you need better advice. So I suggest that dCS support would be a good place to go:
Thank you Pete for that advice.
I could be very wrong, but I think Phil is the dCS Support? If not, he bloody well should be!
Here’s one you hopefully will be able to answer…
I’ve just purchased a new 2025 iPad, which should arrive in a couple of days.
So, with the issues that I’m have connecting to the N5, will the Melco Music HD app be able to access the N5 settings?
I don’t know if Alan is off work, as a result of our previous conversation? But, I have sent him an email.
Just to update…
Last night I managed to access the N5 on my Macs Safari Browser for about an hour. Rock solid!
I closed Safari, tried it again but got “Safari can’t open the page because the page’s address isn’t valid”.
I have tried Chrome with the same results.
Thanks
David
I don’t think so. Music HD is a streaming app for use when you are using Melco as a streamer not as NAS. So you would then not use dCS Mosaic. I would not expect it to allow access to N5 settings but you could download it and see if you wanted to experiment. However I just checked and can no longer find it on App Store. I am afraid this may be an issue to raise with Alan when he is fit. BTW, I have never read a review in an audiophile context that is very favourable.
Yes he is. He has far more knowledge than me and is the best place for advice on this matter.
Edit: Although I cannot find Melco music HD in AppStore I did find a link via google. However there was a warning that it is not compatible with “this device”. My device is an iPhone 15 running the latest iOS. So it implies that it will not work with new mobile Apple units including your new iPad.
I also have an iPhone too. I probably wouldn’t use that app anyway to be fair. The Mosaic app more than does the job.
I spoke with Alan today for a lengthy period, he’s alive and kicking!
He gave me some useful advice. All I’ll say is…Watch this space.
