Bartok stops playing on Network mode

Good description Bernard. :+1:t3:

Just to confirm, so Roon is running on that Mac Mini? And all of them - the NAS, Bartok, and the Mac Mini - are connected to the same D-Link Ethernet Switch? What’s the model number of the D-Link switch?

Anup,
I will get the answer as soon as I get home from work.
Thanks for the follow-up.

My error: not dLink but:
MAS, Mac and Bartok all fed by:
Roon in Mac Mini, yes.

Netgear
Pro SAFE GS 108
Gigabit switch

Is this the unmanaged version in the blue case or the managed (“plus”) version in the grey case?

Blue case for me;

This Technicolor router is a nightmare…

Try this:

  • Go to the router’s admin page and login
  • Navigate to “Advanced -> Device Discovery”
  • Under UPnP click on “Disable”
  • Click “Save” and let the router reboot

There’s no reason for the router to be doing device discovery and when I see this type of setting along with the symptoms you describe I’m inclined to say that the router is doing something really stupid.

Just did the steps you suggested.
So far so good. I will keep you posted.
If you have solved my network issue, I will be forever grateful and name my firstborn ‘Andrew’ in your honour.
Thanks.
Bernard

I think you’ve solved it Andrew.
No issues at all after many many hours of playing.
Thanks again.

I am sorry to say I celebrated too early.
Same network disconnections. Cn’t pinpoint to exact times it jappens but it seems to happen if I pick up and use my phone.
Phone is in house network wifi.
Thanks

To me that basically confirms that it is a wifi network problem i.e. no phone OK; use phone, no go.

Have you checked if the strength of your wifi signal is adequate to deal with several simultaneous connections? Signal strength meters are available from both App Store or Play Store ( I anticipate FoC - mine was). It should also show you if a neighbour’s wifi is interfering with your signal on the same frequency.

Thanks. What signal strength app do you suggest?
How will I recognize a FoC and what is a FoC?

Play Store.

FoC = Free of Charge.

Most strength meters are calibrated to show good, adequate and poor signal strengths as green , black or red areas on the readout. Maximum wifi signal strength is set by legislation in many jurisdictions . Here in the UK good strength is above -50dBm. Remember to try the meter at various points in your room as the strength will vary.

Router is in basement, as always.
Got an app.
This is readout.

Looks OK to me, wifi at - 47dBm.

Bernard, what brand/model is your WiFi Access Point and how is it connected to the rest of your network? To the Technicolor directly or via the Netgear?

I do not have a WiFi Access Point.
As far as I know, the Technicolor router-modem acts as both. The router feeds my powerline adapters, a Netgear switch in the living room, then onto the Bartok, mac, TV etc…
thanks

Is the problem the same as before, as in your Bartok disappears from Roon zone? Or is the “network disconnection” different now?

Also, you mentioned your Phone is on the WiFi network. Do you mean via VoLTE, or a VoIP App (like Apple’s FaceTime)? What App exactly?

Hi,
Yes Bartok Network disappears from my audio devices when disconnection occurs.
My phone uses the carriers LTE but will use a wifi when available.
When at home, it uses my home network created by my Technicolor router. This is how it connects to Roon.
Thx

Right, your Mobile operator supports WiFi-Calling (VoWiFi) which is usually complementary to VoLTE services. It doesn’t explain the disruption to your Roon though.

When Roon loses it’s Bartok Zone, did you try just Mosaic to stream from Tidal or Qobuz?

I ask this because Roon-Bartok losing its Audio Zone and Mosaic-Bartok not being able to stream would normally point to two very different problems [Edit: On 2nd thought, it could point to a problem with your Bartok’s connectivity to your LAN switch. Doesn’t explain why it’s intermittent though]. Basically, it’s important to know for sure whether you’re actually experiencing both issues.

Great questions.

I will try ’ *When Roon loses it’s Bartok Zone, did you try just Mosaic to stream from Tidal or Qobuz?’
So, you want me to see if Mosaic runs Tidal when the Bartok loses it’s Roon connectivity?
I’ll try tonight, after work.
