Are both the RCA and XLR outputs live on the Rossini?

Hi I wanted to two connect separate preamps to the Rossini, one by RCA and the other by XLR. Obviously only one would be powered on at any one time (!) since they inhabit the same room. Is this possible?

Yes.

AFAIK for all dCS DACs the RCA and XLR output sockets are both live and properly buffered.

Yes, as Pete said both outputs are live, properly buffered and independently powered so you can have both running simultaneously just fine. No need to change any settings on the unit to swap from one to the other in your case.
