Mine is made by artesania, has over 200kg on it and no problem at all.
It all hangs free from the outer frame work and then each has its own shelf isolation. It’s a fantastic rack and end game. Plus the turntable top is so dead sounding its unbelievable what it did to my turntable especially after the last rack. The ringing naim frame.
Changing the subject slightly, I remember your comments on the Naim 500DR which has been around for decades, do you think they’ll bring something new out to replace it?
Well your guess is as good as mine, but normally when you bring a new range out, you dont start at the bottom and work up.
Now naim might only want to have 2 new product ranges? But the statement about not being able to do better is completely laughable. The 500 amp and 552 pre amp is such an old design, with just the dr upgrade in what over 2 decades, if they can’t do better then they might aswell just not bother.
I guess they haven’t got the funds, team, etc, these day’s as look at how bad just a simply software update did to them, but then they bring out the lovely N50. I feel they have sat back for about a decade and now completely lost. The statement, sitting back to see where the market goes, again a strange one to come out with.
But going back to your question, most go off and design whatever they feel is the best they can do and then design lower products at a cheaper price point. As can naim do better than the 300 series?
I feel you could wait a very long time for say a new 500 series to come out, I hope they already have it ready to go, but if so why not bring it out? Plus the price is going to be high, its going to be more than the £50+ grand it is now for the power and pre amp. Plus i don’t think it will be better than my wonderful vitus sia030, as that really is a truly amazing integrated amp, that completely destroyed the naim 500 in every department by some margin, especially in the bass control.
I strongly recommend this vitus to anyone with dCS dac’s and don’t be put off with it being an integrated as it has many parts from the masterpiece range, so punches well above what you might expect.
I’ll reiterate my love for the Thrax Ares here, although I’m not sure they make them in black. You could try an Enyo which is available in black though and supposedly also wonderful. You’ll have not spent your entire budget. Lotus hifi will let you compare Thrax and Vitus (and Soulnote) as for integrateds. https://www.lotushifi.co.uk/integrated-amplifiers/
Yes, in comparison with other brands it is very dated. The 500 amp what first launched around 2000. I was having a look at some of the kind amp suggestions from members, a couple of the amps have been around for 8-10 years. I guess the brand theory is, if it works and it sells, just carry on.
Back in May, I did actually listen to the Naim 350 Mono Blocks. To be fair, they sounded quite pleasant and better than my 300DR. I just regret not doing a back to back with the Vitus, but I’ll do that in a month or so.
No sorry David , I’m not even in the UK myself, but he’s a really nice guy with a good portfolio and some nice preowned options as well. I specifically saw him mention Naim and Linn owners who upgraded. Don’t know the Soulnote although I hear good things about them and could be interesting to compare to the Vitus and Thrax options.
No, I’m one of several Dutch people around here
Please let us know how your search progresses. If you make it to his showroom I would be interested in your opinion of the different makes.
Your Bedfordshire dealer will undoubtedly try to convince you that gold is the new black… He sells Accuphase by the truckload - to myself included. Black and Gold work so well together
