Lucky you!

When I was upgraded by BA, I sat across from Margaret Beckett!!!

Haha, you probably slept better than I did though!

This was back in the day, not long after the Sting interview with Geldof and years before Trudie revealed that Sting had made the whole thing up. 7 hours, jeez…

Actually, I didn’t…

She had the overhead light on for most of the flight, poring over a bunch of parliamentary papers!

We’re drifting off topic, so back to the music…

I haven’t listened to these albums in a while…

You post a lot of screenshots, i.e. graphic images that are not readable by blind people who use screen readers like me. Perhaps I am the only blind person in this group and my request may be a bit excessive, but I will ask at least from time to time for a description of what album, its release or artist the recommendation concerns. Thank you very much in advance for your understanding.

Apologies, Robert. That had not occurred to me.

In future, I will endeavour to remember to provide the album details in addition to the screenshots.

Sorry @robertt . Guilty here too.

Out of interest, I assume your screen reader reads the URL of the linked image? I usually rename my images with the album name when I save them. But of course than will not give you the artist for rock/jazz or the conductor, orchestra, soloist, performance etc. for classical.

Anyway I too promise to try to bear this in mind!

Thank You very much for your understanding words. If possible, please include short information containing the band’s name, album title and release date. except a screenshot with full information. Of course, if this fails, nothing bad will happen. Thank you very much again for your friendly approach to my request. Best regards Robert

Apologies Robert, I will try to mention the album in text also.

Mosaic screenshots will be ok for you?

Last night of classical before I deploy my countermeasures against @Bauer  and start my “December project”.

Long day at work so I needed something distractingly intense to help take my mind off things and what better than the Lindsays’ rendition of Haydn’s “Seven Last Words” on ASV from 1993. This is one of my absolutely favourite string quartet recordings, exceptional playing of an exceptional work IMO:

Having settled into the Haydn groove I had to tee up what must be one of my favourite Haydn operas, Il Mondo della Luna, “Life on the Moon”, a hilariously absurd comedy that I have fond memories of performing in sixth form. If you like opera and aren’t familiar with this I urge you to give it a spin. It is absolutely charming music and a great laugh. Antal Dorati and the Orchestra de Chamber de Lausanne in fine form on Philips, also 1993.

Somehow my brain jumped sideways from Josef Haydn to his younger brother Michael and I cued up this beautiful reading of his flute concertos by Emmanuel Pahud on EMI Classics from 1998:

That got me thinking about other less famous relatives and I rolled straight into Johann Sebastian’s eldest son Wilhelm Friedmann Bach’s beautiful sonatas for flute and continuo, with cheerful playing by the Camarata Köln on CPO:

I wrapped up the evening watching Schickele’s fantastic P D Q Bach** inventive and hilarious “The Abduction of Figaro” with the Minnesota Opera (VAI DVD from 2004). You can pick this up for a song on Amazon and it is a no brainer in my view!

** If you don’t know the story about what may be the least well known member of the prolific Bach dynasty, it is worth googling. Quite funny

That’s more than enough classical for me to survive the next month on a diet of (more-or-less) contemporary music. “Project December” starts tomorrow!

PS Please let me know @robertt if this format works for you. It takes quite a lot more time (but forces one to think more about what one is listening to which is a good thing!) so I wanted to check that it is hitting the spot.

I love Robert’s request, and would like to suggest a structure for posts on this section of the community board, for everyone’s benefit.

For example, I have personally often wondered what version of the album @Bauer is listening to. This would clear this up for me too, when he recommends an album that I might like to buy/stream.

My suggestion is that in addition to the screenshot, that each post provide the artist, album name, and format, for example:

Bill Evans, Sunday at the Village Vanguard, DSD

That is a very positive contribution. However I think further details are needed regarding the version being played. For example the Bill Evans albim you post is the Analogue Productions SACD . This can be seen from the attached image but may not be apparent using reader software for the blind. There are many versions and masterings of this title for example. It isn’t the original release.

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately it won’t be helpful. A screenshot from Mosaic will still be a graphic, and graphics without a description are unreadable to me.

Information about the artist, album title, year of release, publisher and format is a very big change for my needs. Such detailed information is needed when we are dealing with a large number of reissues and editions. With current releases, this level of accuracy is not needed. If information about the artist and album to which the screenshot relates appears next to the screenshot, this is already a huge step forward and helps eloth. If I have any doubts, I can always ask the author of the post of details.

Thanks Robert. I just looked at @Bauer 's first December 2023 posting and I am guessing that it may be how you would like things. If so I, and I hope others, will use it as a model for our future contributions.

I have edited my posts for this past month to include text which I hope will be of help.
