Haven’t heard that one, thanks! One of my recent favourites is this one, discovered through a review in Gramophone IIRC.
It’s a cracking performance, and a great recording (in DSD 256)…
I like a lot of Monsieur Roth’s work, especially with Les Siecles (who play period instruments).
I agree, especially having had the opportunity to see M. Roth and Les Siecles a couple of times live in London. However I think I had better clarify for those unfamiliar with them that " period Instruments" does not mean that they play Ravel on baroque violins, cornets and sackbuts. It involves instruments appropriate to the time of the music. So if the first half of the concert is music from the early 19th century and the second half from the 20th century, Les Siecles would use two different sets of instruments.
That’s a good point Pete. Thanks for spelling that out.
I should have been clearer in my post.
Hugely enjoyed the Volodos concert this afternoon. What an amazing pianist! Has me on a bit of a Schubert thang and I find myself listening to this favourite recording.

I have several versions of this album in my library.
This one is the latest remaster, released on Qobuz 17/11/23 (24/192kHz).
I’m not sure which one is my favourite, but this version certainly sounds great to me!
Such an amazing composer and musical inventor. I remember my father trying to explain his greatness to me and just not getting it. I (mostly) understood what he was saying, I just couldn’t grasp the magnitude of it. Like learning about Newton identifying gravity. Yeah? Whatever. Kinda obvious…
Anyway, great catch! Didn’t know these had been rereleased. I trust that this is a new digital master from the original analogue tapes and not just another case of “warmed over” up-sampling of the red book. Will listen to that and Waltz for Debbie tonight!
Big thanks for flagging this new release Jonathan. I have now listened to both this and

and would definitely agree that they sound fantastic. What a great evening of musical time travel! I haven’t listened to these in years.
Like bumping into an old friend quite unexpectedly at a far away airport, sitting down and having a drink, and it being like you had only seen them the day before…
To anybody not familiar with these I would recommend dipping a toe. This is exceptional music played with almost telepathic empathy.
