I thought I’d listen to two very different readings of Beethoven’s famous work, Missa Solemnis.

Firstly, one of Nikolaus Harnoncourt’s final concerts (in 2015, at Stephaniensaal, Graz, Austria);

Arnold Schoenberg Chor, Johannes Chum, Bernarda Fink, Laura Aikin, Ruben Drole.

Is this your favorite version of this Jonathan (la mer)?

Great album by Sting’s guitarist on ECM.

It is one of them…

I like the fact that Les Siecles play period instruments. The resultant ‘authentic’ sound is pleasing to my ears.

FYI, here is a review;

If you’re interested, it’s available here on Qobuz (I bought the download).

Fantastic. Inspires me to dig out the DVD and watch Stop Making Sense again. Must have been at least 20 years since last time. So many 40 year anniversaries of favourite records flying by now, tempus fugit.
