Obsidian!
One of the questions I asked myself! Obsidian is for coffee machines. Midnight Blue is the new black. But will there be 2 versions?
The Varèse music system comprises five components, including the Core streaming and processing unit (£75,000), two mono DACs (one for each audio channel, £90,000 for the pair), a separate user interface unit (£20,000) and the optional master clock (£32,500), for a total eyewatering price of £217,500.
Saturday night is the lottery draw
Skyfall Silver please
Whatever the colour, I look forward to the trickle down models in a few years, like the Rossini replacement.
Or otherwise, for the Varèse APEX
I’m saving already .
@Anupc you have an AML in that garage?
Noooo… Wish I did though!
You could get into a midlevel off the floor for less than a varese but the included b&w (if you turn it on) likely wont put you in sonic nirvana
Apparently ACTUS stands for “Audio-Control-Timing-Unified-System” :
Since we’re on it – what does TOMIX stand for?
From the dCS Varèse Brochure:
dCS TOMIX
A Novel Approach to Mono DAC Synchronisation.
dCS Tomix is a patented clocking technology
which enables the Varèse Mono DACs to operate
in complete synchronicity – ensuring the left and
right channels of each audio sample are converted
at exactly the right moment – whilst simultaneously
maintaining the highest degree of clocking accuracy
within each DAC.
While developing Varèse, we carried out an
exhaustive review of existing protocols and found
that no current technology enabled us to achieve
perfect sychronicity when sending signals via IP link.
We felt there was scope to create a novel solution
and our investigations led us to develop dCS Tomix.
This breakthrough allows us to harness the sonic
benefits of a Mono DAC arrangement whilst
maintaining the exacting standards we have set for
clocking performance.
Best to all,
Bob
Tomix is a subsidiary of the Japanese toy corporation Tomytec. Avid model enthusiasts worldwide feel there’s nothing quite like Tomix trains.
Are there any actual specs for the Varese?
Tomorrow there will be more info, maybe also specs:
More information about Varèse and its supporting technologies will be published on dcsaudio.com on August 9.
I’m old skool – Lionel is my brand.
Best Sir,
Bob
Some confirmed details that leaked through:
-
The dCS ACTUS cable is made up of six twisted pairs of copper cable, carrying asynchronous & error corrected audio signals, control signals and a master clock signal sent via our patented dCS Tomix protocol.
-
Core: Flexible architecture allows for future expansion modules.
No SNAPHAT here (yay!) But I notice a CR2477 battery bottom left (which presumably fulfills the same function).
…and 96 latches.
Is that an SODIMM slot so we can upgrade the memory?
