Varèse Multichannel Event!

I²S is the biggest use for HDMI in HiFi.

You mean the physical port type (and only among vendors who don’t know how to do proper clocking ), I meant the HDMI protocol.

ps: dCS are very clear about where they stand w.r.t external support for I²S. It’s a no. Search the forum.

Thanks Chris @AudiophileStyle for a great and wonderful experiment, and your detailed report!

Seriously, spreading the word and sharing the experience of multichannel playback is worth whatever it takes.

I have just started on this journey, and love it.

Great to read @Ermos

As you know, there’s no single best way to do anything. Options are always nice. Having the multichannel option has been a fantastic thing for my audio listening enjoyment.

Very nice, thanks for posting!!

Having experienced Varèse for myself in Cambridge last summer, I can only imagine how unforgettable this multi-channel experience with it must have been!

From an engineering point of view, it’s pretty spectacular that the Varèse Core is capable of handling 3 times its intended channel capacity. Speaks to dCS’ technical prowess… can’t think of any other high-end vendor the comes even close

I think you mean any other high-end 2-channel vendor?

The Core might not have been developed with multi-channel in mind, but anyway it has 8 Actus interfaces, 1 for the Clock, and another 7, one of which is for the User Interface, so another 6. The processing power is there from creation.

Yes.

That said, I can’t think of any high-end multi-channel DAC either … (maybe Merging+NDAC/8-Channel, or Trinnov Altitude?)

Indeed, those and McIntosh, perhaps the Marantz AV 10 and 20, Primare, Arcam, Bryston, and several cheap ones, and professional ones, e.g. :
