Using a MacBook Source into Vivaldi DAC

Hello,

My Vivaldi upsampler is going to be into repair for a bit, and wanted to see thoughts on a temporary music source.

I was thinking of using a MacBook Pro via USB directly into the Vivaldi DAC. Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Its only temporary

Thanks

Ross

A good temporary idea.

How you want to go about it depends on the sources for your source .

Do you have local files stored and now ? Do you stream from a service and which?

The answers will influence your choices. Trying to do all from the computer may involve using it as a server for local files and server software for UPnP. Streaming services usually have dedicated players to install. However you might want to try a full media playing installation such as Audirvana which will allow you to navigate between the services and the repertoire offered. You can also install the relevant remote app on your mobile device.

I am not a Mac user ( but have an i-phone). I am guessing that connection from the Mac to your dCS unit will be USB. My experience ( now years ago) was that the USB cable choice was significant. Those who might think that all USBs sound the same start by swapping in the USB cable form your printer. Eeek! So a bit of care may be needed but as it is temporary that would seem to place a financial restriction on it.

I hope that helps. Good luck and here’s to a successful repair.

I was thinking I would just stream off of the Qobuz app and pick USB as output…. Don’t want to overcomplicate it. Only for a week or so I think..

If it is that short a time and you are only looking at Qobuz then download their player. I ran my first computer system for a couple of years largely doing this ( albeit PC). Their desktop player is excellent and I still use it in preference to Mosaic for its curated textual information and pleasant graphics which make building favourites a pleasure ( to be played later on Mosaic - add it to the Qobuz player and it also appears in Mosaic.)
