The Vivaldi backup battery: questions

Considering upgrades to Vivaldi (APEX DAC & Upsampler Plus); is the only box currently with this M4T28-BR12SH1 SNAPHAT battery the Clock?

Thanks for clarifying

Best to all,

Bob

IIUC Vivaldi One, Vivaldi DAC (non-APEX and APEX), Vivaldi Transport I (but not II), Vivaldi Upsampler/Upsampler Plus and Vivaldi Master Clock all use this battery. @Phil will no doubt confirm or correct.

So, already confirmed by @James .

Thanks for clarifying — just wasn’t quite sure after reading the thread several times there was mention APEX DAC & Upsampler plus no longer uses the battery for storage.

For instance: from whaus “The DAC I had just upgraded to Apex and so it should not have a battery anymore.”

Best to all,

Bob

For the record @James explained it earlier:

So all Vivaldi units except Transport II use the battery. Units designed onwards including Rossini and later designs ( Bartok, Lina, Varese) do not use the battery as they have non-volatile memories. Vivaldi Transport II is, of course, a recent product design.

Apex upgrades have nothing to do with this RAM which stores product serial numbers ( for inter-unit communication), some data ( e.g. calibration) and user settings.

So, three battery replacements for me when the time comes .

Yes, I have always been helping customers change batteries in this way. I think this should be a design error. As soon as CAL appears, it will cost money to solve it.

No it is not an error. Non volatile memories were simply not available when the units were designed.

Hi Pete,

A simple query on Internet will show you that non volatile RAM existed long before 2012. At the time of the design, say 2010, you already had flash memory on the market…

also interestintg there are 2 batteries which fit, when I change them I always use the one with the higher capacity (cost a few Pounds more), originally dcs is installing the ones with the lower capacity and even when they change them, they not upgrading to higher capacity. You should eplicity demand it when you need a battery change.
