The 7th February, something is coming?

Doubtful the Bartok would have the required internal space for the second transformer, and the additional power supply might also run it past the reliable thermal envelope.

It is maybe meant to be a joke by @Beolab
However, it is misleading. Please forget.

That’s how I took it: just slap in a new transformer, and presto! You’ve got Rossini! And if you take out the Ethernet bits of Rossini and put them in a separate box, you’ve got Vivaldi and a Network Bridge!

Sounds like dCS (not). Greg, we are of similar vintage, so perhaps you recall the build kit days of Hafler and others. Used to put those together those for a fee when paying my way through college at UNC-CH.

Loved Hafler! I owned several boxes by them. IIRC, I had at least one modded by Van Alstine. And I built a few for friends also. And of course, all the Dynaco stuff. Good memories.

Cheers, same here!

And here!

Hafler …280, or something, cannot remember.

Yes!

If you look at the board layout there is two power inlets for dual transformers power each digital side and analog side separately if you pull a Link ( Jumper) that need to be pulled to make the to transformers act separately.

This is nothing i can recommend to any customer who got the warranty on their product from dCS or even after warranty , but it is possible.

I have dun it myself on one of my dCS Paganini DAC’s that is now upgraded to Scarlatti spec performance since 2 years ago.

I have also published photos of this in another thread, but not that many members seem to understand what this procedure ment or was about technically at the time…

I started with the DH-101 preamp and the 200 power amp. Enjoyed building them more than my previous Dynacos.

Nice. Thanks for sharing that Fredrik.

Upgrade is confirmed by my dealer at $9000.

No, an item sold as a fuse needs to operate as a fuse, and at the very least Synergistic Research’s do.

Whether it makes a difference in sound quality is something only you can decide upon auditioning one.

I actually have one of the German ones in my Ongaku. I can’t say I hear a difference, YMMV.

As with all such items, if you don’t hear a difference I always recommend returning it for a refund.

They’re very system-dependent.

Now, after the 7th February 2023 ,what will be better to improuve SQ on a Bartok , Rossini clock or APEX upgrade? , if you only have money for one of them…I know both is the right answer …

Augusto, as I have said before, nobody can answer this from anything other than a theoretic position as nobody has yet heard the Bartok Apex. You really need to await reports from people able to compare both an old and Apex Bartok and both with and without a Rossini clock.

Or for the $100 cost, just not bother…

Like Pete said, it is not necessarily easy to tell. But my hunch given I have both (Rossini Apex + Clock) is I would think Apex makes more diff than a clock. However, I don’t know whether this applies to Bartok, I am speaking about Rossini here.

the ear online reporting £7.5k upgrade price and doesnt mention differential age dependent pricing… has this been confirmed by any dealers?
