I got my print issue yesterday. I really do not think the announcement today will be anything but Bartok Apex + Apex firmware for all Apex units. It would be a complete bust in terms of PR to have the two higher end components reviewed by Stereophile just now only to delete the line. It would make zero sense.
Bravo ! This is a very reasonnable (r)evolution compared to the other competitors but surely very efficient as VS says in the february STEREOPHILE issue. All I have to do is to have my APEX card installed in my VIVALDI.
They say: “The upgrade represents the next generation for our state-of-the-art DAC, Music Streamer, Upsampler, Pre-amp and Headphone Amplifier system.”
So are to read this as not just a Bartok with an APEX card, but that all the other internal components have also been replaced/updated from the old Bartok? And perhaps that this is a start point for a refresh of the full range, hence the “Next Generation” tag?
As expected, I guess now is the part where people ask:
Why bother upgrading a Rossini to Apex instead of getting a Bartok Apex
Why does it cost more to upgrade a Rossini/Vivaldi than a Bartok with what seem to be the same components. Because it will. And while the answer is obviously “because they can afford it”, I imagine it won’t sit well with some people.
