Hi everyone
SongKong Lite is pre installed in Melco, which I’m currently trying. Anyone using it?
Is there a Dummies guide for tagging?

David, a full explanation is probably inappropriate in a forum like this. Many simply do not care about the accuracy of metadata at all. This can be fine with smaller collections where the user simply rememberers what is what and never needs to search or need to see track titles, composers, year of release etc. This eventually becomes an issue over time as the collection grows. So:
Aim to add metadata once so that it is complete and correct and you need not revisit it in the future. For purchased downloads these normally come with metadata compiled by the record label itself and, by and large, it will be correct. There are occasional exceptions however often caused by the vendor. For home ripping use of reliable software is worthwhile and something like dbpoweramp with packaged PerfectTunes will spare a lot of effort. It will automatically identify the CD being ripped, find artwork and offer complete metadata. It also shows alternative metadata found on other databases. You pick the one that seems most accurate and/or edit if necessary.
whatever you use ensure that the fields comply with id3 protocol. For commercial ripping software and purchased downloads this will almost certainly be the case. However if you are trying tom do things free-form, watch out. Get it wrong and the outcome on the player’s GUI will be nonsensical.
Be consistent. Before you start decide on conventions like where to use capital letters , languages other than English, punctuation, word order ( e.g Artist name Beatles, the, the Beatles or Karajan, Berlin Philharmonic or Berlin Philharmonic , Karajan), abbreviations.
Include things not immediately obvious to you like composer and date of release in their correct id3 fields. If you do not do then searching may become difficult at an unforeseen point in the future ( I want to play some albums from 1968 or have I got any songs by Johnny Mercer?).
Appreciate the likley effect in the payer’s visual display by what you have done and how it may transfer to MinimServer ( and thus to Mosaic). This is why id3 protocol is so important.
Before finalising check against label copy ( that is what the record label provides in the CD booklet).
This is just a brief outline. However although my point about adding metadata once and correctly seems too late for you, there is no simple " press a button and everything will be corrected" answer. Otherwise it is a choice of correcting album or rack by track ( SongKong may help) or rip again but this time correctly.
I use something called Yate - a very flexible metadata editor which connects directly to the various music databases and can even restore entire album meta data if needed. It also has various batch features.
I will just note that from reading it is only available for Mac iOS.
I would also caveat that using metadata drawn from existing databases does not guarantee that it is correct and I have found many errors over the years. So check against label copy ( CD booklet) before finalisation. Fortunately recent additions seem to be more reliable then what I experienced a few years ago ( but those earlier versions can still exist). Classical music often requires more extensive workarounds as it does not have a simple Album/Artist/Track format. However this is too detailed for discussion here.
@Merlot52; in some ways from what I have seen online, Yate broadly resembles SongKong. One may be preferable to you.
Thanks Pete, I’ll take a look.
I’m trying to access the N5 settings through a browser on my Mac. The N5 IP address is 192.168.31, but when I press search I keep getting third party admins, not the N5 (See screenshot) Does the browser need more than just the N5 IP address?
You were actually looking for your IP address on Google, whereas you should type your IP address directly into the address bar of your browser. (where now google.com has been typed)
Type just the IP address (in your case 192.168.0.31) without http://
or with http:\\
(note the difference: slashes //
(for internet address) or backslashes \\
(for address on your own network))
The reason is as @Ermos says. However I suggest that you open “network” from your computer tree and use the address bar at the top.Preface the IP address with http:\ My computer pro friend say that the backslashes instruct the computer that you are looking within your LAN and not trying to find an object on the internet ( I am just the messenger ).
That should be two backslashes but for some reason even though I typed two and they appear in the composition panel, this software will only generate one in the posting preview panel.
http:\\
You can use the Preformatted text option in the posting panel: </>
Erno, that’s not correct.
Regardless of whether it’s a full domain name or an IP address on the local or remote network, a URL’s format is always http:// (forward slash). The back-slash works as an escape character, for when the next character is something like a space.
In David’s case, he should be typing http://192.160.0.31 to get to his Aurender.
Oops, you are right, my bad.
Just for accuracy David (as in Merlot 252) has Melco N5 not Aurender.
You have selected in the melco settings visible?
As this needs to be switched on for pc, etc to see the files.
Think its called share, but at work and can’t check right now.
Also the password is 0000, if this is indeed the problem.

Just did that and got this!
Remember that the different services are accessed at different port numbers so assuming that your Melco is at 192.168.1.100 then to get to the different applications you need to tag on the port number so you would enter into the address bar (not the search bar on google) …
Minimserver is on port 9790
Songkong is on port 4567
http://<ip_address>:<port_number>
You normally don’t need to enter the http:// bit either - usually just…
<ip_address>:<port_number>
…will work.
so 192.168.1.100:9790 should take you to the Minimserver web interface (in this example).
I hope that helps
Phil
Hi Phil
The up to date IP address for my N5 is 192.168.0.33. It only works about 1 in 10.
I am putting the IP address in the search bar, not Google.
Please see screenshots.
You don’t need the “www”. I.e. type “192.168.0.33” in the address bar, not “www.192.168.0.33”.
But now you typed “192.168.0.31”, not “…0.33”. Which is it?
