Showing (off) your dCS setup - description and photos

Gregg - thanks to your eagle eyes, my listening experience has become all the more enjoyable ! Removing the naim fraim lite is definitely next on the to do list . I like the look of HRS and had the pleasure of listening to Andrew’s new Varese setup which sits on HRS but I’m quite sure I don’t want to spend that much !

Hi and thank you for letting me join the forum. I was made aware of this page and encouraged to share some picks of my setup. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a used Rossini and Masterclock. The decision was easy, but my wife has considered having me committed.

The apex upgrade will be done, but I just want to enjoy it a bit before making it even better.

The system as it stands now:

  • speakers: Adyton Gracili MK2 and 6 x Kef KC92 subwoofers
  • amplifier: Gryphon Diablo 300
  • source1: dCS Rossini and Masterclock (using internal streamer atm)
  • source2: Acoustic Signature Tornado with AS arm and Lyra pu
  • Isotek power conditioning and grounding base
  • Nordost and Chord cabling
  • Clic furniture and Stack audio stabilisers

Amazing system

Hello! And what is the material on the walls of your room?

Incoming, still need to unpack :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Probably sound a bit closed in at the moment, but enjoy. Lol

A lot of screws later…

Bookshelves!…
…under steroids - no need for stands!

That’s what I tried to tell my wife!

A friend just commented that it looked as if the rest of my room has shrunk

Some speakers need no introduction, but what are we looking at ?

Lansche Cubus MKII. Now discontinued, it was their horn offering. Featuring a plasma tweeter, 50cm midrange horn and 18” bass unit.

Probably better known in Asia and not seen quite often. Bought unseen and unheard, does not disappoint.

Thanks.

So not the miniatures expected? Those online photos can be so misleading.

They are called Woodupp and are a combination of MDF slats and acoustic felt. The MDF finish with a smoked oak laminate.

I think the German guy that I traded my WvL speakers in with got the short end of the stick. When I brought them he mentioned that they were the smallest speakers he ever had  and that he had expected them to be larger.

Their latest model doesn’t seem to be thaaaaaaaat large: 2.20m high, 350kg each!!!

My favourite quote on bigger speakers came from one of the audio industry’s pioneer figures, Gilbert Briggs ( founded Wharfedale speakers in the 1930s). The wider that you open the window the more the dirt flies in ( though being a Yorkshire man I wonder if “dirt” was the original term he used?.).

However I think he also said; A good big 'un always beats a good little 'un.

Oh they’ll just say there’s no difference and that’ll be it. Easy win.

I’ve performed dozens of A/B tests with my wife. Sometimes there were improvements, sometimes things got clearly worse (like that time with a grounded Ethernet cable), and other times I heard absolutely no difference. That’s it.

Here is my dCS/Chord Electronics/Martin Logan system for the last four years. Although I was perfectly happy; I just could not rid myself of my desire to own the next model up of Chord power amplification.

My friendly dealer finally agreed to part with his demo pair of Chord Ultima 2 Mono blocs and take my Chord Ultima 3 Mono Blocs in part exchange. I took the opportunity to revamp the Walnut housing and purchased a sheet of MDF, some black spray paint, a couple of new router bits as well as metal working tools for my wood lathe. Turning Bronze on the wood lathe was a challenge but …

What is the Classé component under the TV on the left?
(I may be wrong, but it really looks like a recent Classé device)
