Via Mosaic…

So not XLR?

The Nagra has two options: a Nagra/Playback Designs specific Plink out and a coax SPDIF. You can use the USB out for local attached storage but not for digital out….

Good stuff David. I would love to hear your views on the Vitus amp, in due course, when you have had chance to give it a good listen.

I definitely will Andy👍

Not sure about the clicking volume control. -45db to -14db is a lot of clicks🤔

The clicks are because you have a lovely volume control in the vitus, different relays clicking on and off as you adjust it. It doesn’t take long to not worry about it, plus hugely better than any pot volume.

You could obviously set the volume on the vitus to a certain level and then use the bartok volume, but I leave my vivaldi at 0.0 and just use the vitus.

I find the vitus pairing with dCS an absolute fantastic sound, just love the true class A lushness, combined with the dCS dynamics, clarity, etc.

Cheers Duncan👍 It’s only been running 72 hours and it’s already singing. I’m putting it on at 8am, off at midnight! Whilst not actually listening, I leave it on Mosaic radio at -75db.

It says that the 25w Class A parameters are -80db to +11db! I’ve be listening at around -10db to -12db. Would that be about right? Your SIA-030 is 30w Class A👍

I normally run my vitus at about -24 in class A. This is 6 volt in. Obviously it depends on speakers and room size. Plus how loud you like it.

But make sure you have the vitus input that you are using is set to 8 volts in, and if you use other inputs match them as well, don’t just set all to say 8 volts as matching the input voltage to the output voltage will bring much better SQ. As I found out when using my phono stage.

Also try it in class A/B and see how you get on, i find it certainly has a different presence, especially on voices, but i like them both especially for different kind of music. Plus it will use less power and on the sia025, it will run cooler.

But enjoy the sia025 as I had one for a while and its a cracker

Here’s my very simple (but great sounding) system, without a preamp, easy to integrate into the room, and very attractive with its cat clock

Thanks for that advice Duncan. At present I have the Bartók and the Vitus set at 2v.

I haven’t tried the Class A/B yet.

Beautiful system, complete with cat dampening,

Very nice but I don’t understand why the speaker on the right points outwards. So it looks like toe-in one and toe-out the other. Surely they should be symmetrical?

Wop it up to 6 volts on the bartok and 8 volts on the vitus, I bet you won’t go back to 2 volts . Plus it will give you more lovely class A head room, just incase you need it.

Well spotted

The speakers are slightly tilted, while remaining parallel. This allows you to maintain a quite good sound stage when sitting in front of the television, but also to have a stereo image in other places in the room. It’s not ideal, but isn’t hi-fi, like life, all about compromise?

I’ll give it a go and report back.

Please remind me Duncan of a scenario when you can get ‘Clipping’.

Thanks

May I pop you a PM about your Zenith…

You won’t get clipping so don’t worry.

That’s when you over power the input on the pre. As long as you go into setting fir the correct input and set to 8 volts all will be good.

If you still had your naim then you couldn’t do this as 6 volt input would cause the pre to clip
