Fully agree. This should be implemented
As the Project Farm guy would say, “Very impressive!”
Not 1, not 2, but 3 Everests. That is a lot of outlets ![]()
Great, clean setup. I wonder how that setup sounds.
Congratulations ![]()
I find the use of my Halcro pre-amp gives a smidgeon more drive and energy to the music.
The Halcro is a super-low distortion design but a veteran now (over 20 years old) but it was back to Halcro in Oz 18 months ago for a fettle and is sounding superb (or not sounding of anything to put it another way).
If / when the Halcro dies I will be happy going direct to the MBL’s - the cost to replace the Halcro with anything equivalent would be too much for me, especially as I’m a single-source digital man now.
There is a first review on C-57:

Brilliant - great review - thanks - will definitely get myself one of these soon.
I love my C-47, it’s an incredible phono stage. If the new one is an improvement it would be very impressive indeed. If anyone is looking for a phono stage it might be a good time to look for deals on 47 as people upgrade!
Hi Rob,
I just wanted to say that I love that your room accommodates a speaker placement that looks like ~6 feet+ / 2 meters from the back wall
How nice!
Transparent pre is what is needed, unfortunately this is hard to get.
Also some amp’s just need a pre for some reason more than others to work well. I guess once again it’s all about finding the balance that works for you.
But I agree that just about every pre will add something or take away something from the source, it has to as it’s something else in the line to the speakers. But if you need a pre amp like myself then all you can do is try different ones as the difference is eye opening. Some completely change the sound into something quite different and that then stops you hearing what the source is really like, and no one wants that.
Has anyone found that the DAC direct to an amp is better than DAC to pre to amp?
You will find thread after thread on this site where individuals profess a preference for each side of the debate. Only you can determine whether your pre-amp of choice gets you closer to what you want to hear.
Demo pair from Highendaudio.nl by any chance?
I had always run my dCS Rossini apex directly into the ch precision a1.5 power amp using good quality xlr cables ( audience front row xlr ) and was very happy with the sound . I also have a benchmark hpa4 headphone / pre amp which I use to add an analogue source and also for occasional headphone listening . I use the single ended rca out from the pre to the single ended input of the power amp and similarly connect the Rossini rca out to the hpa4 rca input. Recently I decided to run the Rossini with the hpa4 acting as a pre amp ( using the same xlr cable between dac and preamp and adding a vertere xlr to complete the connection to the power amp ). I have been pleasantly surprised by the results - the sound feels a little more alive , I hear a smidgen more micro detail and the vocals seem even more life like . I wasn’t expecting this and so have decided to keep the pre amp between the Rossini and power amp. Last week I borrowed a tube pre amp from my dealer ( circa 9k euro master sound pl5 v2) and expected even better results but actually preferred the sound from the benchmark .
I have the Benchmark LA4 pre and love it. (Rossini Apex DAC (6V out) → XLR → LA4 → XLR → Moon 760A and Rossini Apex DAC (6V out) → RCA → dCS Lina headamp)
I concur! I use the HPA4 as pre-amp, together with the 6 V output option of the dac, and as a headphone amp. I even use the sub output of the Benchmark. The thing could have been designed for me. That reminds me: I’ve recently had an interesting experience with the Weiss Helios dac (through headphones mainly). I ought to write it up in another thread.
Hi August,
Indeed, in recent decades I have done business more often with Highendaudio.nl. in my opinion the best place to shop for second-hand and ex-demo equipment in Western Europe. Toni is a very respected guy with a huge network in the audio business, very sympathetic and reliable.
Nice Fyne Audio bookshelves!
Are you sure that the chair architecture doesn’t prevent you feeling all the bass produced by the 2 subwoofers ?
I see a potential weakness in this low cost stereo system ! ![]()
This gives new meaning to the term “nearfield listing”. But seriously, this looks to be a well-sorted kit, even solid grounding. Nice.
