SACD transporter....again

Don’t know how good that one is but it looks interesting for folks spinning SACDs:

Native SACD digital output (DSD 64) only via I²S.

You might have missed the rest of the specs…

Utilizing either I2S connection for full native DSD64 or DSD64 DoP over the Coaxial / Optical / AES / BNC. (Note: USB Output does not support SACD Playback)

So, any of the dCS DACs should easily support this transport for native SACD playback.

Seen this new transport on a few different sites, it certainly looks like a contender.
Plus it’s not that badly priced

But no clocking options

I think that would be current dCS DACs. For SACD, legacy units may either require dual AES ,IEEE1394, have no DoP facility ( Elgar) or via USB ( via the upsampler or clock unit) which this transport does nor support for SACD.

So , for SACD for owners of Elgar this transport will not be an answer.

As the variations in digital input support differs across units over time I suggest checking the manual and with updates for any particular unit before committing to an import from China.

Yes indeed, I meant current dCS DACs only

Second generation (Paganini/Scarlatti et al) should be able to take DOP input and could be used with such an SACD-player.

It depends on the particular Paganini or Scarlatti. Early units had no DoP facility. A later DAC software revision in December 2013 added DoP but it is necessary to check that v.1.30 has been installed. However there may be additional issues as the early USB input without DOP was upgraded (hardware) and I am unsure if the early port was suitable for it.

In any case, considering this machine doesn’t have a Word Clock input, I’d say folks are better off just ripping DSD off SACDs and streaming them
