via LAN. I tried USB but LAN is much better imho…
Antipodes via AES?
My K41 server has only one output, called ‘Directstream’ (Ethernet).
As I understand it, other Antipodes models (such as the Oladra, K50) have various outputs, such as AES and USB, which are reclocked.
Thx all. I have been trying to research with CHATGPT so I can bother you guys less with some simplistic questions. Good knowledge on gear, horrible on network stuff.
Anyway so I am checking out getting an innuos back into my chain for storage and use sense app. I see numerous spirited discussion about SQ and apps and connections. USB is or is not as good SQ as Network (DCS recommends)…even resolving that issue became mute when i just read that if you connect USB and accept the SQ either way, great but I now understand Innous and Rossini connected via USB is not compatible working with Rossini Master clock, which BTWI just aquired. (Not giving that up). So I see these conflicting responses as to if this is accurate or not??? Is there a path to use both?Probably wind up not doing the Zen server and sticking with Synology NAS and MinimServer with Mosaic control point. ( come on Roon lift the SQ vail??
- use Innuos in “stand alone” mode in the Sense setting (you store your music on Innuos’s internal SSD)
- connect Innuos to the switch
- connect router/wlan access to switch
- connect roon core to switch
- connect DCS to switch
- point roon to Innuos music storage/source (look at the volume setting there)
- you may use synology NAS as you backup system (!)
Now you can play via roon, play via Mosaic and play via Innuos Sense to DCS-
these are the settings I use here
Thank you. I get up to #6 sorry but explain how to point Roon? I tried to add a watch folder and had lots of issues as i saw others did as well? Also doesn’t that defeat the SQ goal by using Roon to point to??? Go through Roon? That’s where i lose it. I am wanting to use innuos as it sound better than going through Roon? I am probably missing something?
under roon storage:
add the network path to Innuos internal music (tricky, I know).
You can use - with that setup- roon streaming to DCS and you can use Mosaic that uses Innuos media streaming capabilites instead!
And yes, imho roon has worst SQ

I have recently (and too closely together) moved from dCS Puccini and U-Clock to dCS Rossini Apex and from Innuos Pulse Mini to Innuos Pulsar. In the process I’ve moved from SPDIF connection to USB, and my SPDIF cable was superb. Overall, I’m happy, but something isn’t quite right. I’ve tried better (lower noise) USB cables and they make a nice difference, but I find myself wondering whether I should try a USB-SPDIF converter; this obviously introduces one variable (a new device) while taking another variable (connection into DAC) away.
I’m therefore intrigued by your LAN connection; more than intrigued actually. How do you wire this up? Router-streamer via LAN port and streamer-Rossini via Ethernet port? Does this allow you to use Sense or Mosaic, or only Sense?
I think I know the answers but am trying not to place bets! Thanks
I suspect the piece that you’re missing is the “Connecting Network Streamers” documentation page on Innuos’ website, that talks about how Innuos can function as a UPnP Server on the network.
Innuous licenses the Asset UPnP Server from dBPoweramp (at least till a year ago), which works with dCS but is less than ideal compared to MinimServer. However, it seems Innuos currently also supports running MinimServer natively?? Or so the documentation implies.
In any case, for whatever reason, that Innuous webpage is currently a “404. Nothing here”, but it was archived since its last update in December’24.
You can retrieve it here;
Hi Nigel,
As you may guess, I simple connect everything to my LAN switch (here Ansuz D3). So Router/access point, Rossini, Innuos and roon core are connected there. This gives me the most flexible setup (when trying new cables etc…) and SQ wise most step forward.
Innuos:
You can use Innuos in „stand alone“ mode- in that case, it works like a UPNP server where you can have access from Mosaic and roon in parallel. AND you can stream directly from Sense fo Rossini. I still do prefer - for critical listening- Mosaic….
Running MinimServer would be great but not possible on Innuos in a „regular“ way
I currently use only Pulsar as streamer but plan to introduce the direct network connection to the Rossini so I can at least try Mosaic and use some of its config capabilities.
It is the “stream direct from Sense to Rossini” which threw me and still does… and I thought I had a pretty good understanding of signal paths! I obviously need to read that archived piece.
Cheers both.
Innuos offers now I2S output- will dCS support that in future?
DCS already supports I2S and always has. However I am guessing that you mean I2S by hdmi?
right Pete- HDMI connector
No, we do not support I2S as an input and will not be supporting it in future - on HDMI connectors or otherwise.
This is somewhat OT. However no dCS current component has provision of rI2S via HDMI. This would require re-engineering existing units i.e fitting replacement panels and amending control interfaces. Perhaps the forthcoming I/O module for Varese could be customised? Otherwise costly to users and unlikely without sufficient demand. Maybe for future models but who knows?
Thanks for the correction. I was confusing it with SDIF 2.
- Mutec MC-3+ USB this DDC is recommended Converter? I guess you could also use the innous streamer/server/Sense, and have Rossini function as just the DAC? That brings up the whole USB/Network choice issue. I learned recently from this forum that Roon (don’t like the SQ) controls everything regarding the streaming with Rossini so I am no longer sure that it takes advantage of the Rossini external master Clock> conflicting info on line. Minimserver does wok well but the file handling/tags derived me crazy just to get the music files organized like a Roon or audrivana . The only way i got that to work better was using the folders view. IMHO its just to cryptic to work with.I even used SongKong too try and organize it better. I’m just lost on this entire DDC thing as I understand that set up enable the external clock to work in the chain as intended. I also saw some info on SPDIF and not being able to play DSD files? Anyone using a DDC? And how? Etc. Is it worth it. I would have to think that with innuos having its focus on USB optimization and DCS focused on Network optimization that DCS USB implementation would not be of lesser quality than Innuos especially with the Phoenix lite module??? That would make the sense app the control point option?
I can clear this up - Roon does not control the clocking. It is entirely asynchronous - it does not override the Rossini’s internal clock, nor does it mean you don’t get benefits from the Rossini Clock. You still get all the benefits of the Rossini Clock with Roon. No compromise there.
We haven’t optimised for one interface or the other - it is simply that the network interface (Ethernet) is technically superior to USB for this use case (audio). The problems that companies are trying to solve with USB, such as noise control, are effectively dealt with through Ethernet so there isn’t a need to optimise anything - just follow the established engineering practices & specifications.
We galvanically isolate both Ethernet and USB, and both work with asynchronous data, so neither are treated as ‘lesser’ in a dCS DAC. The fact is simply that for the vast majority of devices in the chain, Ethernet just has consistently better performance.
If you like the Sense app and the overall user experience of the Innuos more than other control options, that’s the reason to use it.
DDCs are really betting that the processing they are carrying out (Upsampling, filtering, format conversions) are better than what is being carried out inside your DAC - so I think in your example this would be comparing the MUTEC MC-3+ processing with the Rossini. The Rossini has very very good processing. The only device I would expect to improve upon what it does would be a Vivaldi Upsampler, assuming you wanted it to be streaming as well.
