Rossini Apex Player and WA 33 Elite

HI, anyone have the combination? I am interested in what setting you use for Rossini, do you use the 6V or lower?

There is no rule for this. You set it by ear so that the volume control of the Rossini is set at 0.0dBfs. Then you select the Rossini line voltage output so that your preferred use of the Woo’s volume control is in a comfortable region, not rotated minimally nor to the full extent. Choosing what you prefer will depend on the sensitivity and impedance of the headphones that you choose and how loud or soft you like to listen.

Start with line voltage set as 2V. This is generally the most common setting and is the default supplied. If you find that even at the minimum Woo volume control setting it is still too loud for comfortable listening then choose a lower voltage. If it is too soft at the control’s maximum rotation then choose 6V.

I expect that 2V will allow a range of Woo volume settings between these extremes. However, it’s up to you in the end.

Note: I am unable to find much technical information of the WA33 and so cannot judge if 6V may overload the input.

Thanks. I haven’t found much either on line which is why I ask. My HP is the AB 1266. With all my previous Amps I ended up using the 6V setting. Comfortable volume dial I listen is at about 11 o’clock on most amps I’ve had. I also reached out to Woo . Thx again

I have a Woo WA33 EE upgraded to Gen 2 specifications. Woo recommends the use of the 2V setting.

Thanks, I’m surprised but this is helpful

How do you like the upgrade difference?

Do you high gain and High Impedence. I have AB 1266 HP

Obviously there is the subjective component and your preference. I’m more really wanting to make sure I don’t do any damage to anything as this amp is so powerful for a HP amp

Mine was a 2019 build. It had 8000 hours on it when I did the upgrade. This is my forever amp(I am 73) so I wanted it to be refreshed plus back then Woo had a run of transformers that hummed including mine. The upgrade lost 95% of the hum, brought a wider and deeper soundstage and a more impactful and cleaner bass. It also included the Direct Ribbon output. On the downside the inclusion of the ribbon output meant the loss of the preamp function which I was using to run my SS amp.

I have the Raal Immanis and the Audeze LCD-5. I do not think the Immanis is affect by the impedance control and the LCD-5 is 14 ohm so the impedance control stays on low all the time.

I prefer low gain but is dependent too a great degree on the recording. The ribbon output is throttle down to 2-3W so more high gain with the Immanis.

Thank for responding. I am also 73 as well. After many years of all SS amps or Hybrids like the AIC 10 I wanted to try all tubes and want to make sure I don’t blow it up etc……

Woo does suggest that a load be present when the amp is powered up. I bought a $15 headphone from Amazon to hookup for power up.
