R.I.P. Brian Wilson

I think that it’s fair to say that he was a truly iconic song writer, who wrote several songs which were huge ‘hits’.
Songs which were an integral part of my formative years, and have lived with me ever since.
R.I.P., Brian.

Thanks, Pete.
I keep forgetting about the paywall!

Actually I haven’t found the Telegraph to be behind a paywall, Pete. I have no difficulty reading the content. Their pop/rock music articles are often rather good, which I find a little odd given the general nature of the paper.

You can avoid paying by registering for a 7 day free trial. No doubt so they can send messages to persuade you to make the trial permanent and/or to pass your details to third parties. You cannot read beyond a couple of lines without doing this.

Actually Telegraph can be an interesting newspaper but I am not necessarily aligned with its political views.

Or just toggle off Javascript support on your browser and the paywall is defeated

Thanks Andrew. However I have nothing against a paywall per se. It is how the newspaper has chosen to fund its business and allow customers to access its content which is intellectual property and is legally protected.

So my initial reaction is that it is questionable whether software to break the payment scheme and allow free access to protected copyright material is legal. It seems in essence as software that resembles devices to provide free access to encrypted premium streamed tv channels or other types of IP theft.

Yes, good points Pete.

If a software or 3rd party website is used, then that would definitely qualify as IP theft. If however, a browser happens to have Javascript turned off which defeats the paywall, then I think there’s a legal loophole (one which the Telegraph should fix with better IT staff )
