From Roon, if multiple versions of a record exist either locally or on available streaming services, then there’s a “versions” tab that appears.
Clicking on this tab lets you know which version is currently selected and allows you to pick another one.
Thanks, I understand and know that. Where I’m lost is that all these versions can be found whatever using Roon or other software (mosaic). These versions are available. As you were stating that you don’t know which version is played (except with Roon) I was wondering if Roon was showing something about the servers etc…
Nop.
Just saying the way Roon presents versions is more comprehensive, immediate and convenient to me…
Yes comprehensive/exhaustive: take for example the “Jazz Giants 58” and search for it on Qobuz from Mosaic.
There are only 7 items reported, not 10…
To take an example of what Erwan has posted screenshots of, Layla, in both Qobuz and Nosaic ( and I presume Roon) track listings may show the recorded version ( mix). However although this is fine when comparing Qobuz ( Mosaic) with Qobuz Connect things become complex if the source changes as a file hailing from one country may show all all the same details as another and seem superficially identical ( but is not as different mastering houses have been used, for example).
Im fine with what you mention but not sure what Erwan try to demonstrate. It is clear that there is multiple versions on Qobuz and tidal. I thought the point was about the sound differences depending on servers.
I’m probably wrong
Let me try to clarify my point.
Most of the time, whatever the app, one searches for a tune, album, … picks the first result that corresponds to his search, and that’s it.
The choice of the version is most of the time never made, and it isn’t that easy to find the alternative versions of an album once you picked one from Qobuz app or from Mosaic for example.
Then what tells you that picking the first result searching on Qobuz from Mosaic and searching on Qobuz app will point you to the same version?
For a same mastering you may pick a 16/44.1 or 24/96 or even a MQA (yes there are few albums for which MQA versions are available even from Qobuz)
For different masterings it’s even less obvious…
Hope this clarifies.
Not really. The date and if it is remastered is often shown. See my screenshot above.
It doesn’t matter for these comparisons so long as the same version is selected which shouldn’t be too hard. If it is then choose another album to compare where it is clearer to you. If one sounds better than the other a few comparisons should reveal this irrespective.
All of the Qobuz players will log you into the server appropriate to your account as I guess will be the same with Roon’s amalgamation of Qobuz. You shouldn’t get access to the UK or Dutch server instead of France ( even if all 3 are situated in Paris).
Erwan, all of the information that you want will be revealed if you use the screen fully. For example if you tap the cover art it will reveal more including the differing release dates.
None of which matters as you will be connected to the same server whichever player you pick. You are trying to find which might sound preferable. So just pick a comparison of albums where there is no ambiguity. If it sounds best for one then it should sound best for all. try a few more albums with single versions if you want confirmation.
