Ah yes - Richard ![]()
No relation! ; )
Yikes. If a manufacturerās rep told me this there would be no chance I would ever buy the product (!)
He then tried to back out of that statement after I picked up on it, but for certain naim pre ampās add much colour, and are a long way off being transparent.
He takes his moderation role FAR too seriously.. We all
have our views on the boundaries of freedom of speech in a civilised society nowadays, but the editorial control on the Naim Forum feels more akin to North Korea than the bunch of liberal minded people who inhabit it need or deserve. If only they were so committed to making great products as they are to crushing discussion on subjects incompatible with their own philosophy.
In my own journey with Naim and now dCS, and never in the higher strata of eitherās offerings, though Iāve heard it, I agree with the view of the Naim-pre sound. It ultimately obscures the totality of the message in one way or another.
On the other hand, the new classic Naim amp sound (NAP250) when paired with a clocked Lina has dCS depth over Naim harmony and palpabilty. Itās beguiling, in a good way for me. Really, really good way.
Hi Matt,
Just for balance - please be aware that forum moderators donāt necessarily make the rules themselves and are often just the āenforcerā.
You can say that again! Which is why, amongst other things, I have deleted my Naim account.
25 year Naim forum member, and 5 year dCS forum member
Sorry guys however I donāt agree with the Richard bashing. He does an exemplary job maintaining the rules of the forum and keeps it from disintegrating into chaos. Too many people fail to realize they are guests in Naims house and the rules were established for a specific reason. I still see too much misinformation posted there, and too many comments from the peanut gallery who pontificate on gear they have never even owned. Other forums, like WBF, are swimming with dealer sharks hawking their wares
Letās hope this place remains a calm oasis of tranquility. Letās remember- itās a dCS forum. I donāt think itās an appropriate place to bash other forums, moderators or brands.
Rant over
Remember I used to moderate on there too ⦠hence a couple of people remembering my avatarā¦
Not bashing - just think this a much more balanced place, without favourites or favour - something that I appreciate and the contrast is super stark. My experience over there is that moderation on the Naim forum extends way beyond ensuring politeness and on topicness, and (whether itās company policy or not) actually suppresses proper discussion on things that matter to members.
The forum and the weird list of things you canāt talk about (or talk about the fact you canāt talk about them) were a genuine factor in my falling out of love with Naim. So when they think about forum and how it is, I do wonder if they consider that likely unexpected consequence.
This thread is about people bridging from Naim to dCS - I think itās entirely appropriate to reflect on the differences in experience.
Of course as with any forum there are rules that we do expect will be followed but @james and I TRY to exert a very light touch on the dCS forum - we try to keep out of things unless we are directly tagged in a thread, correction of information is required OR things start to get out of handā¦
I think you guys do a great job - and I donāt get the impression that any threads have ever mysteriously dissapeared in the dead of the night, or have been put into a review sandbox, or have resulted in users being suspended (not sure this ever happened over at the other place by the way!) but when I do raise the funds for a VerĆØse Iāll make a point of buying a 3rd party ACTUS cable and see if my telling people about it results in excommunication.
Deal! ā¦
⦠and it wonāt ⦠well ⦠not from us but you know how cable discussions go! ![]()
P
Exactly : )
I just tried out this new ACTUS cable from Transparent. It is $50,000/m. The improvement is āNot Subtle!ā
