Hi fellow dCS lovers,
Is there a way to adjust Tidal settings in the Mosaic app? I would like to make sure that “Normalize volume” is “off” to maximize audio quality.
Thank you.

wonder if it is necessary. Volume normalisation normally works by the streaming service sending data about the required EQ to the player. Looking at various player apps that have implemented this, it is user selectable. I can find no reference to Mosaic having implemented volume normalisation and if I am correct there is therefore nothing for your concern.
This is based on my research today and without hands on experience. At the time of writing your post has been here for several hours without a response. it would therefore be very useful to have confirmation of the current situation of Mosaic in this regard from dCS, not only regarding Tidal but also Qobuz ( I cannot find much after 2022 when they had it as work in progress), Spotify and Deezer. So, @Phil your clarification would be highly appreciated.
Thanks Pete,
The reason I ask is, when I am listening to certain albums, for example, The Da Vinci Code’s soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, I notice some stuttering, some wobbling. The problem is especially apparent when playing a track called Rose of Arimathea. The sound stutters so much, exactly like someone speaking through a moving fan (I guess many kids have tried this).
Last night I was trying to adjust Tidal’s settings but couldn’t find the settings icon.
Then I noticed that the problem persisted even if I switched to other devices, like iPhone. The stuttering was still there even when “normalize volume” was “off”. I have a very stable and fast internet connection.
I begin to suspect it is Tidal’s very own problem.
I think that you may be correct. Incidentally I played the track from Qobuz and it seemed fine so it is not a fault with the recording per se.
Hi KTS,
There is no way to adjust Tidal (or any other streaming services’ settings) in the Mosaic app. You need to set them in the streaming service’s app. However I have tried to reproduce your problem without success. Rose of Arimathea is playing fine from Tidal via Mosaic 1.4.3 (513) and sounding great.
You could try resetting the streaming interface (enter the IP address of your dCS DAC/Upsampler/NWB in your web browser and you’ll find it under Device Settings) although it’s not so much that I’m convinced that will help, more that I just can’t think of anything else to suggest. Sorry.
Thanks Andrew,
Every other device that I use suffers the same problem regardless of internet connection method and location (home/office).
As I am in Hong Kong we are not sharing the same Tidal server. I am rather convinced that it is an issue of our local Tidal server, because playing the same track on Spotify is perfectly fine.
Probably not the server itself as that would affect more tracks. However , sometimes the streaming service’s download from the record label can be corrupted. I have known this before and the service has to request a new download.
Let Tidal services know so they can do this. They will probably be unaware as they will not carry out quality checks themselves. Too many tracks.
Sure will let them know. There are other albums involved too, maybe one out of 20.
That’s news. If 5% of all tracks from Tidal give marred results then Tidal would be flooded with complaints and I would expect reports from other users here. Do you use Mosaic for other sources such as radio or nUPnP? Do you find these 100% reliable ( given a reasonably large sample)? Tidal via Mosaic is provided by Airable I believe.
In fact, would you please play the same track now with Tidal. Is the same fault still there or does it sound OK now?
Other devices are not using Mosaic. Besides iPhone and MacBook Pro, I am using B&W formation (with its own app), Astell & Kern portable player (Android based with its own Tidal app) and Chord 2Go (via Airplay, yes I know its restricted quality, for convenience only).
All share the same problem.
Thanks.
I had been under the impression that only a single track was involved. However your further advice that approx. 5% of all items are affected and now that use of various other media show the issue means that it is beyond the scope of this forum and is not exclusively related to your dCS equipment or Mosaic.
It may be the reliability of Tidal into China or perhaps a LAN issue. However I regret that this is beyond any assistance that I can offer.
Yes, I agree. Thank you for your kind assistance all along.
